Pot Shop Warnings for Pregnant Women Rejected in Colorado

DENVER (AP) -- A Colorado proposal to require marijuana shops to post warnings for pregnant and nursing women failed Wednesday when Senate Republicans said the first-in-the-nation requirement would be unfair.

The bill to require maternal pot warning signs had the support of some Republicans and the state Health Department.

Supporters conceded that there's limited research that maternal marijuana use harms fetuses and nursing children. But they said Colorado should err on the side of warning consumers about the newly legal drug.

With state legalization, law firms create new practice groups to advise marijuana businesses

SAN FRANCISCO - Lawyers and pot dealers have long intersected in criminal court, but as marijuana goes mainstream, attorneys have been working to keep sellers and growers legit.

Marijuana divisions are popping up at law firms to advise pot shops on where they can locate, what their websites can say and how to vet new clients.

"It's definitely something that established firms are dipping a toe into, though they are being very cautious, and rightly so," said Sam Kamin, a professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law who teaches a class about representing the marijuana industry.

Marijuana Business Incubator Launches In Texas As Entrepreneurs Anticipate Legalization

Texas is known for many things, but legal cannabis isn’t one of them -- yet. Although the state hasn’t legalized marijuana use at this point, one enterprising incubator has taken on a number of pot entrepreneurs making big plans for the next few years.

The Texas Cannabis Industry Association (TCIA) has already begun working with nine startups on everything from business plans to legal advice. It also lobbies on cannabis policy issues at the state level.

More Danes smoke cannabis than previously thought

A recent study has shown that a higher number of Danes either smoke cannabis regularly or have at least tried it than previously believed.

Aarhus University’s Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research revealed that around 17,000 Danes between the ages of 15 and 25 smoke the drug at least 20 days a month, while the Danish Health and Medicine Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen) had previously put that figure at 11,000.

The research also revealed that 43 per cent on young Danes had tried cannabis, with one in 10 of them having smoked it in the past month. Furthermore, only a few days before the numbers were published, the Danish National Institute of Public Health (Statens Institut for Folkesundhed) released data showing that almost one in four 15-year-old boys had tried cannabis.

Cannabis trio have a point but should lay off the booze

The Cannabis is Safer Than Alcohol party deserves credit for exposing the hypocrisy of the so-called 'War on Drugs'. However, it shouldn't do so by demonising drink, argues Henry McDonald.

There is a lot to be said in favour of Northern Ireland's latest party to enter the general election contest - Cannabis is Safer Than Alcohol (CSTA). The three candidates - standing in West Tyrone, East Londonderry and North Down - will do local public discourse a massive favour by highlighting the absurdity of the so-called "War on Drugs" and the monumentally stupid policy of prohibition of all narcotics.

Alaska Moves Forward On Regulating Marijuana Concentrates

NEW YORK (MainStreet) — One of the strongest new upstarts to establish itself as a separate vertical within the greater marijuana industry is the part of the market known loosely as "concentrates and oils." This can refer, technically, to anything from CBD tinctures fed to epileptic children to highly concentrated THC waxes that are ingested orally or vaped.

Ferrioli will protect marijunana rights in Oregon

ONTARIO — Marijuana took up most of the discussion at this morning’s Legislative Hotline, with state Sen. Ted Ferrioli expressing frustration with the slow pace of rule-making.

Legislative Hotline is a monthly video conference with Ferrioli, District 30, and state Rep. Cliff Bentz, District 60, and local residents. It is hosted at the Ontario School District administrative office by the Ontario Area Chamber of Commerce.

Addressing issues raised by Ontario Mayor Ron Verini, Ferrioli said one of likely results of Measure 91 and the implementation measures being established is that Oregon medical marijuana cards will no longer be available to out-of-state residents.

$10M requested for marijuana sales kickoff in Oregon

Economists predict $18 million in Oregon's first two years.

SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — On Thursday, Oregon lawmakers asked for $10 million to get recreational marijuana sales underway in the state, following in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington. But KOIN 6 News learned the tax money generated by pot sales is expected to be much slimmer in Oregon.

As the first state with a full year of recreational marijuana sales, Colorado is the poster child for legal pot. Just last year, the state generated $700 million in marijuana sales — about half recreational and have medicinal.
