The Washington State Liquor Control Board(LCB) has filed emergency rules in order to close a loophole in the recreational marijuana market. According to the LCB, they are adjusting the rules by “defining, consultant, intermediate product, paraphernalia, and selling price” According to the LCB, the new ruling comes after allegations of some stores providing a package deal to their customers.

(Reuters) - A federal judge hearing the case of nine men accused of illegally growing marijuana in California said Wednesday she was taking very seriously arguments by their attorneys that the federal government has improperly classified the drug as among the most dangerous, and should throw the charges out.

Judge Kimberly J. Mueller said she would rule within 30 days on the request, which comes amid looser enforcement of U.S. marijuana laws, including moves to legalize its recreational use in Washington state, Colorado, Oregon and Alaska.

"If I were persuaded by the defense's argument, if I bought their argument, what would you lose here?" she asked prosecutors during closing arguments on the motion to dismiss the cases against the men.

Professional education on the cannabis industry is becoming broader-based and easier for young professionals to come by – which could help create a better prepared workforce for marijuana companies.

Colleges across the country are beginning to latch onto cannabis as a new course topic, with classroom instruction on law and policy involving the marijuana industry. Vanderbilt University, the University of Denver Law School, Oregon State University and the Santa Clara University School of Law all offer a variety of courses that specialize in the legal aspects of cannabis.

An organization pushing recreational legalization in Maine has a new focus: Help out small business.

Legalize Maine filed initiative language with the secretary of state, and is touting its effort as the first “homegrown initiative,” according to the Portland Press Herald.

Much of the ballot measure language is standard – those 21 and older could possess up to 2.5 ounces at a time, and sales would be taxed at a 10% rate.

Many adults today have turned to smoking out of a dry herb vaporizer. The cannabis industry has been abuzz since Illinois unexpectedly issued 70 business permits to medical marijuana companies earlier this week, allaying concerns that the licensing process would be delayed indefinitely.

“I’ve got phone calls coming in almost 24/7 now,” said Joseph Friedman, chief operations officer at PDI Medical, which was awarded a dispensary license. “It’s been a very exciting 48 to 72 hours since we got notice. I’m working day and night to make this thing happen.”
