On Tuesday, the province announced all emergency orders that have been put in place to date under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act had been extended until near the end of May. This includes special provisions extended to cannabis retailers who have been given permission to develop delivery and curbside pick-up options for customers.
According to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, “for the duration of the emergency,” holders of a cannabis retail store authorization have been allowed to operate pick-up and delivery services as long as they meet a number of conditions.
This includes receiving payment either online or by telephone before orders are picked up. The location for customers to receive their orders must be an outdoor area in close proximity to the retail store. Strict ID checks are also required, and only the person who placed the order can pick up the product.
The cannabis must also be in its original packaging, sold in a manner to hide its contents — this typically means a paper bag.
Stores can only operate from 9 am to 11 pm, and at this time, the extension of emergency orders will expire on May 29.
