About one-third — or 32% — of pot users would consider giving weed as a holiday gift, according to a Canada-wide poll done on behave of P.E.I.-based cannabis brand FIGR.
“It does seem fairly high to be honest with you, which is an optimistic sign for the industry and how far we’ve come in these two years,” said Andrew Quinlan, FIGR’s senior brand manager.
“And that’s coming from the new realities of life, it’s coming from two years of legalization. It does seem like cannabis is slowly but surely progressively getting more normalized.”
And respondents said they were most likely to gift cannabis to friends (80% ) than siblings (51%) or a spouse or partner (41%).
However, a surprising 27% were also prepared to give the gift of pot to their parents.
“I’m surprised by that, too,” said Quinlan. “I know that it’s anecdotal experience. I’m sure some people would be like, ‘Yeah, that makes sense.’ While others would be like, ‘I could never.’”
And when it comes to what kind of cannabis product to gift, 49% said edibles, 36% preferred flower or bud, 32% choose pre-rolled joints and 27% favoured oils.
“Edibles are often seen as a great method for people who don’t want to smoke,” said Quinlan.
People in British Columbia, historically a more liberal province when it comes to weed, were more interested in gifting flower/bud (42%) than those in other parts of Canada, according to the poll.
The poll of 1,507 randomly-selected Canadian adults was conducted Sept. 16-17 by Maru/Blue and is considered accurate within 2.5%, 19 times out of 20.
