A large-scale greenhouse, that’s made the switch to cannabis, is finally entering the market with its first harvest.

AgraFlora Organics International Inc. has a partnership with the huge Houweling Nurseries complex on 64th Street, an operation called Propagation Services Canada.

Greenhouse owner Ruben Houweling and CEO Elise Coppens this week on Twitter proudly pictured themselves in the drying room at the Delta facility, saying the operation’s first harvest is complete.

The venture will see the eventual conversion of the entire 2.2-million-square-foot greenhouse facility, which is located in the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The company states its Delta complex is “focused on reshaping the Canadian flower market with high-potency, low-cost cannabis.”

Meanwhile, another large-scale cannabis greenhouse in East Ladner is about to expand further.

Pure Sunfarms has also been planning to convert a second 1.1 million square foot adjacent greenhouse for production.

Village Farms recently announced Pure Sunfarms has received from Health Canada an amendment to it cultivation license for its second greenhouse facility, permitting it to cultivate cannabis in the adjacent facility immediately when conversion has been fully completed.

The cannabis producer expects its cultivation capacity to reach the full 2.2 million square feet during the second half of 2022.

The City of Delta also has a smaller cannabis greenhouse operation in the ALR, Rubicon Organics Inc. in East Ladner.

Growing organically certified cannabis, that facility is 125,000-square-feet in size but the operation also has a licence to grow outdoor on several acres on its property.
