Here’s a look at what is happening in Ohio government and politics:
Ohio lawmakers want to block a proposed marijuana monopoly and other monopolies from being written into the Constitution.
“The plan rolled out Tuesday was backed by top legislative leaders, but critics said that it may go too far in trying to derail the fast-moving marijuana plan engineered by ResponsibleOhio,” Dispatch reporter Alan Johnson writes.
If approved by the House and Senate, voters would see it on the ballot this November, likely along with ResponsibleOhio’s plan to legalize marijuana, giving the profits to those who invested in the campaign.
What happens if both measures gain voter approval? According to Attorney Steven H. Steinglass, "It’s possible that if both issues pass, a court could rule that marijuana is legal in Ohio, but would not be limited to monopoly ownership," Johnson writes.
