Court ruling a blow to marijuana legalization effort in Ohio

The Ohio Supreme Court’s decision regarding the ballot language and title of state Issue 3 could make it tougher for investors in a $20 million campaign to persuade voters to approve the Nov. 3 measure, which would legalize the commercial growing and selling or marijuana.

The word “monopoly” will remain in the title, the court ruled late Wednesday, and that could influence some voters. Even some Ohioans who don’t object to legalizing pot might be swayed against Issue 3 because of the notion that business opportunities could be limited under a proposed constitutional amendment that would grant a monopoly.

Issue 3, which was drafted by the pro-pot group ResponsibleOhio, would permit only 10 marijuana farms in the state.
