Australia: Proposal to grow medicinal cannabis in Glen Innes

Northern Tablelands MP, Adam Marshall, has put forward a proposal to grow medicinal cannabis at a site near Glen Innes.

Mr Marshall said the Department of Primary Industries Glen Innes Research Station is the perfect site for planned trials of the controlled cultivation of medicinal cannabis.

He's raised the idea with the State Government and Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair, and said Glen Innes Shire Council Mayor Col Price is supportive.

The Federal Government last month made a decision to permit the controlled cultivation of cannabis for medicinal or scientific purposes in New South Wales.

The State Government is now searching for potential trial sites.

"It's a secure facility; it's one of the oldest research stations in the state with a strong track record of research both in livestock and pasture trials," he said.
