Yesterday, Chris Christie officially dropped out of the race for President. Although many would argue that his showing in New Hampshire, at just about 8%, was good enough to warrant a continuation of his campaign, Christie’s chances of reaching the GOP nomination were always stacked against him.

In July of last year, I argued that the trends against Chris Christie were too great for him to have much of a shot at the presidency. For starters, his overall image had taken a negative turn after “bridgegate,” a scandal that marred his tenure as New Jersey’s governor. When Christie declared his intention to run for presidency, he was dead last in “Net Favorability”–the difference between the percentage of approving voters and the percentage of disapproving voters.
