Marco Rubio's reefer madness
Marco Rubio is still fighting the war on weed.
The Republican presidential primaries kicked off with an almost comically large pool of candidates, but following the Iowa caucuses, three men stand as top contenders: Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.
None of these men can be considered progressive in the drug policy arena (well, Trump used to be). However Marco Rubio stands out as particularly threatening to cannabis reform.
As the majority of GOP candidates have moved away from strong anti-marijuana positions on the campaign trail,Rubio has taken the Chris Christie approach instead. Christie, of course, infamously pledged to repeal marijuana legalization in states like Colorado and Oregon (where recreational pot is legal) if elected president.
Although Christie appears to be quickly fading into the background of this presidential primary, Rubio has moved to the foreground and he’s echoing much of Christie’s prohibitionist rhetoric.
