Watching marijuana become legalized in a select handful of states over the past few years has been interesting and exciting for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the entire nation was witness to the fact Colorado and Washington — the first and so far only states (Oregon will soon join them) to develop legal markets and economies around legal pot — did not devolve into one of the many scenarios dreamt up by doomsayers. In fact, it’s been a boon to both states, creating millions in revenue, and tens of thousands of jobs.

That hasn’t deterred some hardliners, who still believe it’s a bad idea — in spite of the mounting evidence to the contrary. One of the biggest fears? That legalizing marijuana, or any other morally dubious activity or substance, will lead to disaster for younger demographics.

“Think of the children!” they might say.
