Having assessed wholesale cannabis prices for a year, we thought it would be insightful to compare the price movement of cannabis to other agricultural commodities. The chart below illustrates the average week-on-week price change for selected commodities over the past year.
The green bars are the Cannabis Benchmarks® Spot Prices for the US, CA, CO, OR and WA. The three CME yellow bars represent futures for corn, wheat and soybeans traded on the Chicago Board of Trade (part of the CME Group). The analysis is rounded out with spot prices for corn traded for delivery point Lamar, CO, wheat traded for delivery point Portland, OR, and wheat traded for delivery point Odessa, WA. For context, the 2014 US wholesale markets for wheat, soybeans and corn were $12 billion, $40 billion and $53 billion, respectively (source: USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service).
