City Council candidates weigh in on whether Columbia's marijuana ordinances should be changed

COLUMBIA — Candidates for three seats on the Columbia City Council in the April 7 election responded in writing to 10 Missourian questions about city government issues. Here is the question the Missourian asked about the city's marijuana ordinances. Responses appear in the order the candidates will appear on the ballot.

Do you believe the city of Columbia should amend its ordinances regarding the cultivation and/or possession of marijuana? If so, how?

FIRST WARD CANDIDATES

John Clark: I have been horrified by the effects the “War on Drugs” has had on our society. I would love to be able support a proposal, especially a medical marijuana cultivation proposal, for the city of Columbia, similar to the one adopted in 2004 on possession of small amounts of marijuana. The recent ordinance on the cultivation of marijuana that was proposed and rejected by the City Council was not ready for a vote....
