Oregon Lawmakers consider letting medical marijuana dispensaries temporarily sell recreational pot

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Oregon is racing the clock when it comes to setting the rules for retail pot sales.

Now, some lawmakers are considering letting medical marijuana dispensaries sell recreational weed starting July 1, 2015 when Measure 91 goes into effect.

Sen. Ted Ferrioli (R-John Day) is working on legislation that would allow medical marijuana dispensaries to temporarily sell retail pot. Medical marijuana growers would apply for a special license that allows them to sell extra pot to medical marijuana dispensaries who could then sell it retail for recreational use. Under the plan, recreational customers would still have to pay taxes on marijuana, which is required by Measure 91. Medical marijuana customers would continue to not pay taxes.
