Most marijuana stocks are down to start 2018 — ironically, the year expected to make recreational pot legal across Canada.

Delta 9 Cannabis Inc. (TSXV:NINE) ("Delta 9" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has entered into a limited partnership agreement with Westleaf Cannabis Inc. ("Westleaf") and Delta West Inc. for the joint development of a large-scale cannabis production facility located in Southern Alberta (the "Project"). The entering into of a non-binding letter of intent in connection with the Project was previously announced by the Company on January 24, 2018. Delta West Inc. acts as general partner of the limited partnership formed by Delta 9 and Westleaf.

The budding cannabis industry presents opportunities for women and people looking to use their experience with cannabis when it becomes legalized in Canada later this year.

That’s according to those in the industry at the CannabisCon job fair held at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton on Saturday.

The city of Edmonton is looking at a zoning bylaw change that could pave the way for the establishment of cannabis lounges if they are allowed after marijuana is legalized in July 2018. 

In a report for city council, administration said these proposed amendments are a proactive step in getting ready for next year. 

"This new classification is intended to differentiate this use from other eating and drinking uses already defined in Zoning Bylaw 12800 (for example, bar and neighbourhood pubs)," city administration said in a report for next week's public hearing.

"Other jurisdictions, such as Denver, have found it necessary to provide places for tourists to consume cannabis — cannabis lounges would provide a land use classification to accommodate this activity."

Alberta's latest cannabis growers said Tuesday they remain bullish about the nascent industry despite a major sell-off of pot stocks that has sent share prices tumbling for months.

After submitting its application for a production license four years ago, Airdrie's Sundial Growers secured Health Canada's approval last week, becoming the third legal producer of medical marijuana in Alberta.

The facility west of Airdrie is relatively small for the industry, at 30,000 square feet, but the company plans to break ground in the coming weeks on a $120-million grow-op spanning 400,000 square feet in the central Alberta town of Olds.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held south of Edmonton Friday morning on what’s touted to be the largest cannabis production facilities of its kind in the world.

The 800,000 square-foot Aurora Sky cannabis production facility will be capable of producing more than 100,000 kilograms of cannabis every year.

Larger than 16 football fields, the facility is being built on the land at the Edmonton International Airport.

“Beyond that, it’s so technologically advanced,” said Cam Battley, with Aurora Sky. “We’re using technologies that have never been used, in some cases in cannabis production and in other cases, in agriculture.
