Northern Territory Police find marijuana buried in a leg of lamb

Would-be drug smugglers were roasted when police discovered marijuana hidden within a leg of lamb.

The slab of meat and its unusual herb accompaniment was found by police in the Northern Territory, after something smelled suspicious to the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk.

Officers then decided to x-ray the lamb, which revealed the 20g bag of marijuana.

Police discovered 20 grams of marijuana hidden within a leg of lamb in the Northern Territory

It is believed the lamb had been shipped to a company at Darwin Airport, and would then be sent on to the Tiwi Islands 100kms to the north.

The stash would have been worth $2000 if it had been sold, which is about four times the normal price of the drug in suburban Australia.

Australian Channel Nine refuses to publicly support star presenter Karl Stefanovic over drug comments

CHANNEL NINE has refused to publicly support or defend their star presenter Karl Stefanovic over controversial comments he made about drug use.

The Today presenter was quoted in Sunday magazines nationally saying he had smoked marijuana in the past and thought occasional cannabis use was “just great fun”.

“Look, I’ve never had a drama with people smoking marijuana. I’ve never seen a violent person on weed. Obviously the jury’s still out on the long-term medical effects of it, but a joint with friends, I’ve always thought, is just great fun. We do stupid things as adults, but I’ve never thought of that as one of them,” he said in an interview with The Sunday Mail.

Is Australia ready for medical marijuana?

A GREENS MLA has proposed a bold new plan to make Canberra the medical marijuana capital of Australia.

The legislative assembly is currently holding an inquiry into a bill containing a medical marijuana scheme proposed by minister Shane Rattenbury which is due to be ruled on by June 2015.

In the latest move by the minister, he has outlined a plan that would allow the ACT to develop a monopolised cannabis industry akin to Tasmania’s $120 million dollar poppy industry.

Mr. Rattenbury would like to see the ACT government granted an immediate exemption from the federal ban on importing the plant and is calling on the inquiry to allow Canberra businesses to begin developing a medical marijuana industry.

New CEO of cannabis group Michael Sautman wants Australia to legalise it

Prominent North American legal marijuana industry lobbyist Michael Sautman will be in Sydney early next month to start making his case to regulators after being appointed chief executive of a yet-to-be-named cannabis group that is poised to float on the Australian sharemarket.

Mr Sautman is hopeful that in the future Australians will be able to legally tuck into pot-flavoured cereal for breakfast, eat a hemp-based faux steak for dinner, and smoke a joint in the evening. And he wants to be able to sell them all of those products and more through a suite of cannabis businesses being assembled in a reverse takeover of failing ASX-listed mining hopeful Capital Mining.

Australia: Medical marijuana has widespread support from Vote Compass users

Support for medical marijuana was highest amongst people aged 55 and over: 84 per cent agreed it should be legal.

Younger respondents were slightly less supportive, with 72 per cent aged 18-34 in favour.

Both major parties have offered conditional support for medical marijuana.

The Coalition Government is planning medicinal cannabis trials for epileptic children, terminally ill adults and cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Opposition Leader Luke Foley has accused the Government of moving too slowly, saying the trials are unnecessary because the benefits have been proven.

Farmers missing out on $1 billion hemp food market

GREENS MP and agricultural spokesperson Jeremy Buckingham visited a Goolmangar rice farm yesterday to reveal his party's intention to initiate a parliamentary inquiry into hemp food, which would investigate government roadblocks that restrict NSW hemp farmers from the $1 billion international hemp food market.

"Since Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) have indicated it (hemp seed) is safe, we want to launch a parliamentary inquiry to change the legislation and regulation in an effort to get hemp food and fibre production up and running, into the marketplace, into retail outlets and into the diets of all Australians," he said.
