This was the last thing Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin said to crown lawyer Paul Riley before Riley quickly closed his arguments.  It was an appropriate ending to a special morning in the Supreme Court of Canada.  Health Canada had failed to defend limiting patients to ‘dried marijuana,’ and everyone in the room knew it.

The decision is expected in late June or Aug.

TORONTO -- A new report from Statistics Canada suggests marijuana use may be down among teens and young adults.

The survey shows younger Canadians are still the biggest consumers of marijuana, with a third of 18- to 24-year-old respondents reporting they had used marijuana or hashish in the past year.

But the percentage of people between the ages of 15 and 24 who reported having ever used marijuana dropped between 2002 and 2012.

And the percentage of 15- to 17-year-olds who reported having used marijuana in the previous 12 months declined when 2012 responses were compared to those of the 2002 survey.

The report is based on data collected during the 2012 Canadian Community Health Survey on mental health.

The ability of people to fill medical marijuana prescriptions directly with a government-approved grower, rather than a pharmacist, creates difficulty for physicians trying to keep tabs on a patient, says the registrar of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

"We end up with a gap in the information that's available to us if there's a problem," said Dr. Ed Schollenberg. "And more specifically, a gap in the information that might be available to a physician if there might be a problem."

We know the end is coming, but pot prohibition is going to have to be undone state by state. Here are the ones least likely to jump on the bandwagon.

Marijuana prohibition in the US is dying, but it isn't going to vanish in one fell swoop. Even if Congress were to repeal federal pot prohibition, state laws criminalizing the plant and its users would still be in effect—at least in some states.

And it's probably a pretty safe bet that Congress isn’t going to act until a good number of states, maybe more than half, have already legalized it. That process is already underway and is likely to gather real momentum by the time election day 2016 is over.

OTTAWA -- Former soldiers who want timely access to medical marijuana say they are undeterred despite having been denied a meeting with Veterans Affairs Minister Erin O'Toole.

Retired corporal Clayton Goodwin, who represents a group known as Veterans for the Use of Medical Marijuana, was shut out of O'Toole's stakeholder meeting Tuesday at the Canadian War Museum.

A spokesperson for the minister said Veteran Affairs staff have spoken with Goodwin and are setting up a one-on-one meeting.

"There isn't a lot of blame to be placed on Veteran Affairs, they're working," Goodwin said.

"It's more that we need to work towards ending stigma and shame and get more voices in a room because I'm not aware if we're ever brought up in there."

GUELPH—The owner of a new marijuana lounge in downtown Guelph says "the motivation for the idea is purely selfish."

"It is to have a place for myself and people like me, who have medical prescriptions, to hang out and smoke marijuana," said Anthony (Tony) Veder, owner of the DLR 420 Vapour Lounge on Macdonell Street. Veder made the comments in an interview just after the opening of the operation. He said he's been reluctant to talk to reporters about his latest venture but wanted to clarify his motives and quell any rumours.

Veder said he isn't a pot legalization crusader or looking for attention but is delighted with the response from neighbouring businesses and the wider community.

A Saskatoon student is taking a medical marijuana complaint to the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission after his school wouldn't let him use it on its property.

Michael Wileniec, 21, suffers from a rare bone condition called hereditary multiple exostoses. His body produces bone bumps which interfere with movement and pinch his nerves.

He told Saskatoon Morning host Leisha Grebinski that he is in pain much of the time. He has a prescription for medical marijuana, but his high school, Nutana Collegiate, won't let him smoke it at school.

Saskatoon Public Schools has asked Wileniec to drive home to smoke his prescription if he feels pain. So far, the school has denied his request to use a vaporizer in the nurse's room.

A few years ago, when Modern Corp.’s Chief Operating Officer Gary E. Smith was recovering from open-heart surgery, he used the company’s 12-acre H2Gro facility to walk and rebuild his strength. Even then, Modern was contemplating a risky investment of converting the structure to a sophisticated, medical marijuana production center.

Now, with the New York State Compassionate Care Act signed into law, formal rules and regulations in place and an application process under way, Smith and Modern are vying to become one of five, licensed growing operations in the state.

Two years from now, the leafy corridors of the greenhouse may no longer house the towering tomato plants, instead nurturing the strong-stalked cannabis and their oil rich, medicinal trichomes.

Despite the headline, I’m a proponent of crowdfunding and believe it can bring innovative ideas to market. Fundamentally, I feel that new forms of financing provide additional access to much-needed capital and bring healthy competition to the lender market, benefits that all entrepreneurs and inventors can appreciate.
