Scientific discoveries are published almost daily in regard to the healing properties of the cannabis.

But most of these findings appear solely in subscription-only peer-reviewed journals and, therefore, go largely unreported by the mainstream media and by the public.

Here are five just-published cannabis-centric studies that warrant attention.

Gas & Grass: Could buying weed at the gas station be the next big thing in Colorado?

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The next big marijuana trend may have just hit the ground running in Colorado Springs. Soon, people there will be able to get gas and buy weed.

7NEWS found a place called Gas & Grass owned by Native Roots on the east side of the city.

The company said it is the largest medical marijuana dispensary chain in Colorado. Company officials wouldn't go into particulars about the new concept but told the Colorado Springs Independent that it bought two Colorado Springs gas stations to transform them into a gas station/dispensary business.

"This is an opportunity to expand the market," said Cannabis advocate Robert Chase. "We still need the owners to be responsible."

Road fatalities in Colorado have plummeted since marijuana was legalised

Since Colorado voters legalised pot in 2012, prohibition supporters have warned that recreational marijuana will lead to a scourge of “drugged divers” on the state’s roads. They often point out that when the state legalized medical marijuana in 2001, there was a surge in drivers found to have smoked pot. They also point to studies showing that in other states that have legalized pot for medical purposes, we’ve seen an increase in the number of drivers testing positive for the drug who were involved in fatal car accidents. The anti-pot group SAM recently pointed out that even before the first legal pot store opened in Washington state, the number of drivers in that state testing positive for pot jumped by a third.

Colorado pot sales spike in July, continue to set records

Colorado pot sales — recreational and medical — were thriving in July 2015, the most recent month for which the Department of Revenue has released marijuana tax data.

After topping $50 million for the first time in June, recreational sales cleared the $55 million hurdle in July when sales totaled more than $56.4 million — a record for retail cannabis in Colorado. Medical marijuana sales numbers in July were also at their highest in the recreational era’s 19 months of recorded data, reaching more than $39.8 million.

Denver Plans For A 'First Ever Of Its Kind' Local Marijuana Regulation Symposium

When it comes to regulating a legal recreational marijuana industry, Colorado has largely set the standard. Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana at the same time (2012 Election), but Colorado came up with rules much faster than Washington did, and started recreational marijuana sales faster as a result. I know that Alaska has been looking towards Colorado for guidance on how to implement their marijuana legalization initiative and for industry rules, as I’m sure most other states will do too. Oregon has come up with its own rules, but it’s fair to point out that Oregon tends to usually do things its own way, marijuana or otherwise.

Marijuana Taxes Go Up In Smoke For One Day In Colorado

It isn’t April 20, but Colorado is staging its own version of pot day. It sounds odd, but the state claims tax law is forcing it to suspend taxes on recreational marijuana for one day, September 16, 2015. The bizarre tax holiday is due to what Gov. Hickenlooper called a fiscal glitch in the state constitution. Value buyers may note that the holiday should shave about $20 off the price of a mid-grade ounce of marijuana. There could be huge crowds and hoarders.
