Marijuana use in Colorado schools still unclear, prevention on the rise

It's unclear if marijuana legalization has increased use among students. (Helen H. Richardson, Denver Post file)

Two years after recreational marijuana was legalized in Colorado, school officials still don't know if more kids are using or bringing the drug to schools.

Educators say not much has changed since legalization, and the data tracking drug use, when available, are unlikely to have a big impact.

But schools are encouraged by grants — funded by a portion of the state's marijuana tax revenue — that provide more health professionals in schools to support drug education and prevention programs.

Cancer Victim Thinks Council Should Reconsider Decision on Medical Marijuana

What have you been up to now?  Banning medical marijuana in Coronado?  Have you no souls, no decency, no sense of compassion?  As as cancer victim, I could not use medical marijuana if I had wanted to because it wasn’t legalized until after my cancer.  If my cancer recurs, I want to be able to avail myself of the law that passed in 1996.  Prop. 215, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, has brought relief to many, many cancer victims, AIDS patients, the injured, the burned and the dying.  I can tell you I’d have tried it in 1995.  I hear it beats puking in a bucket all day.

Colorado Marijuana Tourism: Cannabis Tours, Bud Hotels Popular With Visitors

At the Bud+Breakfast at the Adagio, which bills itself as a cannabis-friendly lodge, visitors to Colorado looking to get a whiff of the local weed scene can wake up to the smell of pot wafting through the foyer and dining rooms of what have become known as "bud-and-breakfasts." Mornings begin with a "wake and bake," where guests sample marijuana strains before scoffing down a traditional three-course breakfast. Afternoons can be spent unwinding with a THC-infused massage or lighting a joint at the lodge's 4:20 p.m. happy hour.

High There! Hopper

A new kind of party bus hit the streets of Denver, Colorado earlier this week. And locals may be able to smell it coming.

The High There! Hopper is a mobile cannabis lounge — a 20-person limousine carrying recreational and medicinal marijuana users from one local hot spot to the next, free of charge. It allows people to travel safely while under the influence, meeting other like-minded tokers along the way.

To gain access, users have to download the company's social networking app, HighThere!, which launched in Apple and Google's app stores earlier this year.

Starting Thursday, you can track the bus's location on the app as it cruises through downtown Denver.

Open Mic Night at the Cannabis Comedy Club

Well, we made it another year in the legal cannabis sector. Companies imploding, heads rolling, you had to have strong conviction to stay in this sector as an individual investor, but you also had to have a sense of humor. Sometimes it seemed like open mic night at the comedy club … you know, not always very funny. As the year ends and we think back about the lows and highs, we are still scratching our heads about the groaners we had to endure while sitting in the audience.

EDITORIAL: Time for legislators, regulators, governor to address legal marijuana

Colorado’s world-renowned venture into commercialized marijuana has failed to deliver what voters were promised: an industry regulated like alcohol.

In 2016, the Colorado Legislature and Gov. John Hickenlooper should try to give voters what they were promised.
