Parents’ marijuana use associated with substance use in their kids, study says

Teens and young adults whose parents use marijuana are at an increased risk of using weed, alcohol and tobacco, according to a study authored by a Harvard Medical School researcher.

Recent and past parental marijuana use poses a risk of substance use to their children, data from 24,900 parent-child pairs analyzed by National Surveys on Drug Use and Health from 2015-2018 showed.

Researchers examined the data and saw that parental marijuana use was a risk factor for marijuana and tobacco use by teens and young adults and for alcohol use by teens.

Reality Check: Does Using Cannabis Damage Your Fertility?

A recent study provides very interesting data for those of us who grew up hearing that marijuana lowers sperm count and may even cause atrophy or shrinkage of the testicles.

Infertility is big business. Five billion dollars is spent in the U.S. each year towards helping couples conceive a child. More importantly, infertility creates stress and hardship for the approximately 15% of couples who have trouble conceiving.

With an increase in both legal marijuana in the U.S. and consumer usage of the herb, researchers naturally wanted to know if fertility is reduced among couples in which one or both partners consume. The short answer is no.

Caryophyllene: Rising star of cannabis research

If we can say that CBD and THC are the stars of cannabis research, beta-caryophyllene (BCP) can be viewed as a silent agent behind the curtains that doesn’t make all that noise.

But things are changing for this terpene.

The stats from scientific research say it all.

Even though it was first synthesized in 1964, it didn’t seem to present an interesting challenge for scientific examination.

Cannabis stocks soar as Bill to legalize marijuana approved

Cannabis investors received some exciting news this week.

The U.S. House Judiciary Committee -- which is charged with overseeing the administration of justice within federal courts and law enforcement agencies -- approved a bill on Wednesday that decriminalizes marijuana at the federal level. If approved by the House of Representatives and Senate, the bill could pave the way for full-scale legalization of marijuana in the United States.

Wave of layoffs strikes legal cannabis

Legal cannabis was supposed to mean jobs and tax revenue as an enormous illicit market slowly gave way to regulated cultivation and sales.

That may yet happen, but so far, both sales and the accompanying tax haul have been lower than promised. And with companies missing sales and revenue goals, that means layoffs for the worker.

Multiple major brands in cannabis have announced cutting more than 10% of their workforces this fall. Joining software delivery platform Eaze and ad-platform Weedmaps, both of whom announced workforce cuts around  20% last month, are California brands Flow Kana, Cannacraft, and would-be national power player MedMen.

Marijuana & pregnancy: What we know

Limited research is creating real problems in understanding the impact of cannabis not only on an expectant mother, but her child as well.

Could what we know about marijuana and pregnancy be factually incorrect? Studies dating back to the 1970s have shown marijuana has had effects on birth weight, length of gestation, and more. One recent study aimed to prove whether or not past research was sound in its findings.

Can these marijuana stocks continue to climb?

While the past few months have not been especially kind to marijuana stocks, it seems as though companies are beginning to find their stride once again. The past week or so has seen some big gains come back into the pot stock market, but many are wondering if they are only short term. One of the key things to note about pot stocks is that the market is very heavily based in volatility. This is due to how infants the industry is overall in addition to other factors.
