Marijuana is not as addictive as heroin nor a gateway drug, a new report says, and regulating its use does no harm to the public.

The blunt talk comes from a groundbreaking new study issued Wednesday from the Toronto-based International Centre for Science in Drug Policy, which argues anti-pot activists are blowing smoke.

The center’s director, Dr. Dan Werb, said in the report, “More and more jurisdictions are reconsidering their policies on cannabis, yet the public discourse around cannabis is filled with frequently repeated claims that are simply not supported by the scientific evidence.”

Maxim Zavet is hoping to soon begin production of medical marijuana in a converted chicken processing plant in Paris.

The Toronto lawyer and businessman, who began work on the project just over two years ago, is awaiting the results of a Health Canada inspection completed a couple of weeks ago.

"We're waiting with bated breath, hoping to hear something soon," Zavet said in a telephone interview.

GUELPH — Provided he gets the signatures required for the nomination, Kornelis Klevering plans on running in this fall's federal election under the banner of the Marijuana party.

This will be a third attempt for Klevering, having also run in the 2008 and 2011 general elections.

CALEDON, Ont. - Provincial police say summer means another season for outdoor marijuana grow operations and are asking for the public's help in identifying possible growers and grow locations.

Police say marijuana plants have already been planted during the months of May and June.

OPP say common locations for grow-ops are swamps, corn fields, and wooded areas, though growers may also rent a rural property with acreage.

Investigators say the growers return to maintain the plants about every two weeks until they are ready for harvesting in the fall.

First, Kimberley, B.C., grants a business licence to a medical cannabis dispensary and then Vancouver City Council votes to regulate and license medical cannabis dispensaries.
