You will be able to buy weed from two stores in Sudbury

After 45 days of waiting, the second cannabis store in Greater Sudbury has received approval from the province to open.

The HighLife store, owned by Anton Lucic, will be located on Marcus Drive. Lucic is expected to make a formal announcement Thursday on how quickly he will be able to open.

Once its operating, the HighLife store will be the city's second cannabis outlet. Demand has been strong at the Canna Cabana store at the Four Corners, owned by Saturninus Partners. Lineups outside the store have become a regular sight since it opened April 20.

With approval for HighLife, 24 of the 25 cannabis stores approved in Ontario have been given the green light to open. The last store waiting for approval is the Fabulous Leaf outlet in Oshawa.

Capturing Eden brings access to medical marijuana

Free for guests to enjoy, treats of brownies and cakes sat beside a brew of hemp coffee that had good reviews from visitors. A new curious customer walked in every 20 minutes or so, which was a joy for owner Stephen Barber who celebrated six months of hard work at the weekend opening of Capturing Eden.

“We recognize a need, not only in this community but throughout Canada, in especially under-serviced areas that are similar to Haliburton,” Barber said about the lack of medical marijuana access. “People are waiting long times to get medical assessments, travelling a distance to get them, and to find the right products to help their ailments. We thought this would be a good place to start.”

Still-not-open London marijuana store slapped with $50K penalty

The owner of a London cannabis retail store that still isn’t open has been penalized $50,000 by the province’s pot regulator.

An Ontario numbered company behind Tweed, located at 1025 Wellington Rd. S, is one of seven store owners forfeiting an additional $25,000 to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) for failing to be in business by April 30, a spokesperson for the regulator confirmed.

Eleven owners previously had $25,000 drawn from their letters of credit submitted to the AGCO — a condition for applying to open a marijuana retail outlet — for not opening by mid-April.

Cannabis tourism in Canada: Canadian Kush Tours

At the dawn of marijuana legalization in Canadian, longtime Toronto marijuana advocate Neev Tapiero saw an opportunity to expand his reach within the industry. Being at the forefront of significant cannabis-related firsts in Toronto (Tapiero is the founder of both the city’s first compassion club Cannabis As Living Medicine (CALM) and the Toronto Global Marijuana March) he could foreshadow that legalization would bring new business opportunities, especially within the tourism sector. And with that, the 23-year cannabis veteran launched Canadian Kush Tours.

Ontario cannabis distributor cancels tender for same-day pot deliveries

Ontario's government-run cannabis distributor has cancelled its tender for couriers to make same-day pot deliveries.

The provincial corporation tasked with the online sale and distribution of recreational cannabis posted a cancellation notice on Friday via the Ontario government's tender portal.

The Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation, which conducts e-commerce as the Ontario Cannabis Store, did not cite a specific reason for why it decided not to proceed, and the OCS was not immediately available for comment.

The corporation first posted the tender in January, calling for "expedited same-day delivery" for OCS orders. The project was set to begin as early as March in the Greater Toronto Area.

Waterloo startup develops app to have legal cannabis couriered right to your door

When Evan Adcock told his parents he was leaving university to launch his own tech startup, they weren't too happy.

The fact that it was to develop an app that facilitated cannabis deliveries only made it worse.

"Especially my dad, he's a conservative guy and a reverend — so when I told him, No. 1, that I was dropping out of school and, No. 2, to do legal drug dealing in his eyes, he was not very happy," said Adcock, the 20-year-old CEO and co-founder of Verda Innovations Inc., an app that connects legal cannabis stores with third-party couriers to guarantee same-day delivery to customers.
