Quebec has reported its first case of severe lung disease linked to vaping, according to La Presse.

The newspaper did not cite any sources, adding that “few details have emerged on this subject.” On Friday morning, Quebec’s top public health officer, Dr. Horacio Arruda, is to hold a news conference on the risks associated with vaping.

An actual health hazard warning was released after a marijuana product couldn’t get Canadians high.

The product was sold at a Quebec cannabis distributor and it was mislabeled. This led to Health Canada to release an actual hazard warning.

Some customers received cannabis containing 12.2% THC while others received ‘Bayou Flower’ containing 6.36%. That would probably mean some people were getting 50% higher than others depending on what they were sent.

An Indian Express report said that around 16,818 units of the recalled product were sold, of which, fortunately only 245 units were mislabeled.

A petition to lower the quantity of single-use packaging on Quebec cannabis products has garnered more than 1,500 signatures—and counting.

The petition calls on the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC), the province’s only legal cannabis retailer, to halt the use of all single-use plastic components, which are currently ubiquitous in Quebec retail.

The Société québécoise du cannabis, Quebec’s online and storefront cannabis sales network, posted a net income of $1.36 million for the 12-week period that ended on June 22, based on total sales of $45.1 million.

In a report published on Friday, the SQDC revealed that its storefront branches proved to be vastly more popular than its websites during that period. According to the report, SQDC branches boasted sales of $39.5 million, compared to $5.6 million generated by the websites. In terms of quantity, the SQDC branches sold 5,512 kilograms of cannabis, while 752 kilograms were sold through the websites.

Manitobans who want to grow their own recreational cannabis may now have legal ammunition to use in any future court challenge of the province's home-growing ban.

The Quebec Superior Court struck down that province's ban on home cannabis cultivation on Tuesday. In its decision, the court ruled the provincial ban was unconstitutional because it infringed on the federal government's jurisdiction over criminal matters.

Quebec Superior Court Judge Manon Lavoie overturned the province’s ban on homegrown cannabis on Tuesday, meaning that Quebecers are now free to cultivate cannabis at home without facing legal repercussions.

In June 2018, the provincial government passed Quebec’s cannabis law, which included provisions banning the cultivation of cannabis at home.

However, Lavoie ruled that these provisions are unconstitutional as they infringe upon the jurisdiction of the federal government, which has sole responsibility for legislating on criminal matters.

As a result, homegrown cannabis in Quebec is now regulated by Canadian law, which allows citizens to grow up to four cannabis plants.

When it comes to cannabis, the proof is in the peeing.

Canada’s national statistics agency has been collecting and testing municipal wastewater samples from five cities for traces of cannabis to gauge actual usage of the now legal drug. The results are surprising: In some cases they contradict other Statistics Canada data on pot use, while shedding light on the potential size of the black market.

Quebec’s public-health directors are warning that the provincial government’s proposed regulations restricting edible cannabis products contain “grey areas … that undermine the effectiveness” of the new rules.

In July, the Coalition Avenir Québec government announced that it will ban the sale of cannabis-based chocolates, candies and “any other product attractive to minors.” However, the draft regulations do not specifically prohibit the sale of cannabis-infused soft drinks and juices and, in fact, would “establish that an edible cannabis product in liquid form cannot contain THC (the main active ingredient) that is greater than 5 milligrams per package.”
