Downtrodden Desert Town Is Experiencing a Marijuana Boom

Growers now operating at this facility in downtown Los Angeles will be among the tenants of a planned 380,000-square-foot facility in Desert Hot Springs.

Carlos Bravo, the owner of a tow company here, was at work late last year when a real estate agent came to him offering half a million dollars for 5 acres of undeveloped, brush-pocked desert — five times what he'd paid for the land six months earlier.

"I thought he was joking," Bravo said.

The man came back the next day, making it clear he was not.

A few days after he had signed the paperwork, Bravo said, another man offered him $1 million.

Orlando Passes New Marijuana Ordinance 4-3

Orlando leaders have voted in favor of decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana.

The City Council voted 4-3 for the measure Monday afternoon. The ordinance is set to take effect Oct. 1.

The change means anyone found with up to 20 grams of marijuana will face a civil infraction rather than a criminal one. Twenty grams of pot is about 30 to 40 joints.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer says the change shows understanding and mercy.

"What we're saying is to someone who has made a youthful mistake for the first time and they have no other background of any sort and are not associated with any crimes we're probably going to be able to give them a second chance," Dyer said.

Stamp, Share, & Save! Why Customer Loyalty Programs Are Important For Your Marijuana Delivery Business

According to Invesp, just an increase of 5% in customer loyalty can lead to a 25%-100% increase in profit per customer, and on average, loyal customers are 10X more valuable than first-time customers. Therefore, it is clear nothing beats customer loyalty and retention when it comes to guaranteeing business continuity. In a competitive marijuana market where customers can make snap decisions to switch their dispensary providers or delivery suppliers, customer retention programs can make all the difference.

Why Vermont's Failed Bill Is Only A Bump On The Road To Legalization

Despite what you've read in the news, marijuana legalization in Vermont isn't dead. Yes, the House defeated a Senate bill that would have legalized recreational marijuana use. But that setback hasn't derailed the movement.

"Definitely the best is yet to come," Matt Simon - New England Political Director of the Marijuana Policy Project - told Civilized. "I hate losing but we're not losing. We're on the way to marijuana being legal across New England in the next two to three years."

Here's why Simon is so positive.

How Billboards Became the Cannabis Industry’s Ad Darling

In a (successful) effort to stir up media attention for an Arizona legalization initiative, the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol this week put up Mothers Day-themed billboards in Phoenix and Tucson.

The ads turn the typical parental cannabis conversation on its head. “Have you talked to your parents about marijuana?” they ask.

As sticky as the slogan might be, the blast is the latest example of a broader trend. And in this case it’s not the message, it’s the medium.

Will FDA's New E-Cig Rules Affect Marijuana Vape Pens?

On Thursday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finalized a long-anticipated rule regulating e-cigarettes and tobacco vaporization devices, including vape pens.

The 499-page document left many in the cannabis industry scrambling to understand the new rule’s potential impact on vape devices intended for consumption of marijuana and its extracts, instead of for nicotine.

The key question is whether products in the rapidly growing cannabis vape industry can be defined as “tobacco products.”
