New Law Clarifies Medical Marijuana Insurance Requirements

Workers’ compensation carriers and self-insurers will not be required to pay for a patient’s medical marijuana under a new bill Gov. Doug Ducey signed into law Monday.

The state’s more than 63,000 holders of medical marijuana cards will still be allowed to purchase their own cannabis, but the law removes the requirement that workers’ compensation carriers and self-insurers reimburse patients for medical marijuana.

The law is similar to protections already in place for federal and private insurers under the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.

Washington Is the Only State with Legal Marijuana That Doesn't Allow Home Grows

But That Could Change—If You Care About This Issue, Contact These Representatives in Olympia Right Now

few years ago, my friends Monica and Nate got ahold of a few marijuana cuttings, also known as "clones," and planted them in their backyards. Neither of their plants grew into the towering, gawky, bamboo-like stalks you see in stock news photos of professional marijuana grows. Monica pruned hers to grow smaller and bushier, less conspicuous, almost ornamental—the bonsai of marijuana. They were stupidly easy to grow, both said, no more difficult than tomatoes or basil. One year, the wind knocked over Monica's pot planters, breaking one and crunching lots of the stems—but they hurtled back to life.

Broader marijuana legalization measure detailed in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Supporters laid out language Monday for broad marijuana legalization in Ohio and began collecting signatures for a 2016 ballot campaign.

A spokesman for the Cleveland-based group Ohioans to End Prohibition said the petition effort began at the Opening Day baseball game in Cincinnati.

Jason Wagner said his group’s proposed amendment would provide more cannabis access than a competing proposal by another group, Responsible Ohio. The broader Cannabis Control Amendment would repeal Responsible Ohio’s proposal should the latter make the ballot and pass before next year.
