Idaho: Medical marijuana advocates hope petition gains signatures

Marijuana advocates are starting another push to legalize medical marijuana here in the Gem State.

The Idaho Medical Marijuana Association has started a petition that would ask lawmakers to make it legal for some patients to use marijuana. Organizers say the proposed bill would allow patients suffering from qualifying medical conditions, including chronic diseases, to use the drug and would need the OKfrom a doctor. The president behind the groups says she's worked with people in hospice care and understands the pain they go through.

"For me, it's all about the patent and transforming people's life's to be easy," said Tesla Heidi Gillespie of the Idaho Medical Marijuana Association. "When people transform and

Legal Weed Is Revitalizing Huntington, Oregon Thanks to Out-of-State Visitors

Idaho license plates line the parking lots of Huntington's pot shops.

Idaho Governor Butch Otter hates weed. Not only is his state one of the last without any sort of medical or recreational marijuana program whatsoever, Otter has even recently gone on record urging Trump to pursue a federal crackdown on states with legal marijuana laws. But despite the governor’s disapproval, Idaho’s residents are getting their hands on the marijuana they want elsewhere, and it’s bringing much needed financial relief to one struggling Oregon town.

Idaho pot activists launch new campaign for medical marijuana

A new initiative petition seeking to reform Idaho’s stringent marijuana laws has hit the streets.

Earlier this month, the Idaho Secretary of State's Office approved a petition that, if passed into law, would create a medical marijuana program in the Gem State. Current Idaho law takes a particularly harsh approach to marijuana compared to neighboring states, which allow some sort of medical use of the drug or have outright legalized it like Washington and Oregon. In Idaho, possession of cannabis is a misdemeanor offense and the state doesn’t sanction the medical use of the drug.

The push to legalize marijuana is in full force and a look at just how swiftly attitudes are changing nationwide is nearly enough to make anyone start buying pot penny stocks left and right. Though there has been both disappointing and encouraging signs from the federal government in regard to eventual reclassification or legalization of cannabis, we’re still seeing a state-by-state domino effect take place.

Idaho maintains hard line on marijuana laws

Sick or just looking for a good time, marijuana is not the answer in Idaho.

Utah is in the middle of a legislative debate on whether to legalize some forms of medical marijuana. Recreational pot use is legal in Oregon and Washington. Medical marijuana is legal in Montana and Nevada. Cannabidoil to treat seizures is legal in Wyoming and legislation to decriminalize pot possession is being considered in that state.

Here in Idaho, the resolve to keep marijuana illegal remains steadfast.

Under current Idaho law, an individual charged with possession of up to an ounce of marijuana faces a year in jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine. More than three ounces is a felony punishable with up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

Idaho: Four kids now taking marijuana-derived epilepsy treatment under state program; more being screened

Four Idaho children are now taking the drug Epidiolex under an “expanded access” program permitted under federal law and authorized by Gov. Butch Otter through an executive order, state Public Health Division Director Elke Shaw-Tulloch told lawmakers this morning. Epidiolex is a purified oil made from the marijuana plant that contains no THC; clinical trials are under way to use it to treat children with severe epilepsy, and the expanded access program allows other kids not in the trials to receive the drug.

CANNABIS CULTURE – Now that Canada is poised to legalize cannabis for all adults, you may grow complacent about how much trouble marijuana can get you into in the United States.

Sure, we’ve got four states (Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington) that have legalized some possession of weed, with another five states (Arizona, California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada) likely to legalize in 2016. You can even possess pot in our nation’s capital, Washington DC.

Idaho Medical Marijuana Campaign Releases New Video

I have a special place in my heart for marijuana reform activists in Idaho. One side of my family (maternal) is from Idaho, and I have hundreds of relatives that live there. I don’t visit very often. It’s not because I don’t like the view. Idaho is a very beautiful state. And it’s not because I don’t want to see my family, because I love them all very much. It’s because Idaho is a very, very scary place to be when you are a marijuana consumer. The laws there are harsh, and many law enforcement officials in Idaho absolutely love to enforce marijuana prohibition.
