Following various theories presented as to the true reason behind Jamaica's dominance in the sprint races, some little-known Kenyan researchers claim to have discovered what has long baffled many in both the academic and sports world.

After little research and a lot of speculation Prof. Wak Manyang' and Dr. Emalek Kiso have attributed marijuana as the reason why Jamaicans are so fast.

In a research paper titled 'Weed for Speed; The case for legalising Cannabis Sativa' the researchers claim that copying Jamaican habits such as their dance styles or even wearing Jamaican flag themed bracelets or bandanas will not help Kenya produce sprinters. Rather, the researchers argue, Kenyans must be allowed to grow, sell and liberally consume marijuana for sports reasons.

New York, United States — US Border Patrol officials deal with thousands of people making illegal crossings from Mexico every month.

Apart from children and families making the crossings, the US has to deal with the shipment of illicit drugs and this week, Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery witnessed first-hand the arrest of three individuals trying to smuggle marijuana into the US.

Nkaissery had been on a three-day learning mission at El Paso on the US-Mexico border together with PS Monica Juma to better understand how officials deal with border patrol and control.

A couple aged 50 years was arrested in Murang’a for being in possession of five stones of bhang.

The two were arrested on Tuesday evening at their home at Githunguri village in Iyego location, Kangema Constituency.

The arrest comes after one week of intensive surveillance on the couple following information provided by the public to the newly established Quick Response Team of police known as QRT.

According to Murang’a County Commissioner Kula Hache, the couple, Peter Muturi and his wife Jane Wambui, has been selling the narcotics for a very long time.

The two are said to have been arrested a couple of times, charged in court and fined but have never abandoned the illegal business.

A 19-year-old boy was on Monday arrested after police discovered a cannabis (bhang) farm in his home at Kiandai Village in Kirinyaga County.

The incident, which left residents of the village in Ndia Constituency and his family members shocked, took place after members of the public tipped the police about the presence of bhang in Cyru Wanjohi’s farm.

Confirming the arrest, Ndia OCPD Gasper makau said Cyrus Wanjohi is being held at Baricho Police Station as security officers conduct further investigations.

Four police officers have been charged with aiding a suspected drug trafficker's escape from Makupa police station, Mombasa county, last Sunday.

Justus Sangalo, Ahmed Saney, David Koskey and Joseph Machoy denied the charges and were released on Sh20,000 bond each on Tuesday.

Richard Maranga had been arrested in Majengo last Friday, with drugs including 67 sachets of heroin and 50g of bhang.

County commissioner Nelson Marwa said he was on his way to distribute the drugs when he was nabbed by residents and taken to the police station

Marwa had issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the suspect's arrest, and for action against the officers who helped him escape.

NAIROBI: A children's rights body has sued police officers for allegedly stripping and posting nude photographs of a female student in Kirinyaga County. The 18-year-old Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE) candidate was among 45 students that were arrested on August 5, in a Nairobi-bound bus and remanded at Sagana Police Patrol Base as having been intoxicated and engaging in sexual activities in a public vehicle. The disturbing pictures of the girl semi-nude as police searched for drugs hidden on her private parts were circulated widely on social media, prompting a backlash against the officers.

They say boys will always be boys. As students from various colleges were busy showing their rugby talents on the pitch at Kenyatta Stadium, some were on a smoking spree. Police officers in Machakos caught a group of college students having a moment of 'one stone.' The police were however shocked by the calm exhibited by the young marijuana smokers. Believe it or not, the boys confessed their sins and then proceeded to 'educate' the cops on the Rastafarian culture. "I and I Rasta says dat herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction. So mister officer, when you smoke the herb, it reveals you to yourself," one of the college boys told the cops. The officers simply confiscated the banned drug and let the boys be.
 

On Friday night, while DJ Abstrakt was thrilling fans at the popular Persia Club at TRM along Thika road, National Environment Management Authority (Nema) officials walked into the venue in the company of police and ordered that the music be put off.

It was a moment of panic as the huge crowd of revellers, mostly university students, watched the officers summon the DJ, before whisking him away.

Rumours broke out that he was spinning under the influence of ‘something’ but Pulse would later establish that his arrest had to do with the Nema licence at the club.

After his arrest, he was locked up at Kamukunji and not even efforts by his friends, who camped outside the station pleading for his release, could get him bailed out.
