Medical Marijuana Opportunities Being Pursued in Argentina

Placentia Bay Holdings Inc has just purchased the old US Navy mess hall in Argentina to pursue opportunities in the medical marijuana production industry.

The old AMA building was built in 1956, and Port of Argentina Board Chair Vivian Smith says they’re pleased the building has been sold.

Placentia Bay Holdings’ next steps are to apply for the various government permits and approvals needed to proceed.

Company representative Ed Maher says he plans to remediate and refurbish the building for use as a modern hydroponics operation.

Argentina Creates Research Program With Free Access Following Legalization

Argentina’s Senate has given final legislative approval to a bill legalizing the use of cannabis oil and other marijuana derivatives for medicinal purposes, and setting up a regulatory framework for the state to prescribe and distribute them to patients.

The legislation approved by senators Wednesday also creates a medical marijuana research program at the Health Ministry, which must “guarantee free access” to cannabis oil and other derivatives to patients who join the program. The legislation was passed by the Chamber of Deputies earlier.

Argentine Congress votes to legalize medical marijuana

Argentina's Senate voted unanimously to legalize medical marijuana, joining the lower house and setting the country on course to become the latest to relax its laws on pot.

President Mauricio Macri is all but certain to sign the bill, which garnered an unusual level of cross-party support and was applauded by patients and their families.

A group of mothers with sick children burst into tearful applause in the Senate as lawmakers voted 58-0 to pass the bill.

"This is a dream fulfilled, an immense happiness because it will bring solace to patients," said Maria Laura Alasi, whose four-year-old daughter Josefina suffers from West syndrome, a form of epilepsy that causes her to have dozens of seizures a day.

Argentine Congress Ready to Approve Medicinal Marijuana

The Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Congress will discuss Wednesday a bill that will allow the use of cannabis oil for medical treatments.

The initiative, if approved by the block of forces that supports the government of Mauricio Macri and a faction of the opposition, would allow the use of cannabis oil to combat diseases such as epilepsy, chronic pain and fibromialgia, among others.

The project implements the creation of a regulatory framework for medical and scientific research on the medicinal use of the cannabis plant and its derivatives.

Lionel Messi Leads Argentina Teammates In Media Boycott Over Ezequiel Lavezzi Marijuana Claims

Lionel Messi has led his international teammates on a boycott of the Argentinian media after growing tired of their continued attempts to undermine the national side at every turn.

Not for the first time, Messi and co. were barracked in the press after losing 3-0 against Brazil in last week’s World Cup qualifier, only to bounce back with a convincing win over Colombia in their very next game – a result which moved the Albiceleste back into the play-off spot.

'Better to be belligerent than innovative': Argentina's new approach to fighting drugs

In late January this year, at little more than a month after he took office, Argentine President Mauricio Marci issued a presidential decree declaring a "state of emergency" in South America's second-largest country.

One of the things asserted in the decree was that trafficking of illegal drugs posed a "threat to national sovereignty."

In the months since, Argentina has pursued muscular law-enforcement practices in its anti-narcotics efforts.

News Roundup: Alaska's First Legal Cannabis Harvest Just Began. It's Already Stalled.

U.S. News Updates

Alaska

Alaska’s first commercial cannabis harvests are underway. The first official legal crop comes from Greatland Ganja, a small cultivator on the Kenai Peninsula. Greatland has harvested about 75 pounds of cannabis so far, of an expected total of about 100 pounds consisting of 10 different strains. Unfortunately, however, the first harvest may not have anywhere to go. Distribution and sales are stalled until state-licensed testing laboratories are up and running. At the moment two labs are nearing completion in Anchorage: CannTest hopes to open by mid-October and AK Green Labs aims to be online by early November.
