As the puck dropped on another NHL season on Tuesday night, kickstarting the 104th season of play, the league is well-positioned to lead the four major sports leagues out of the Stone Age and into a new frontier regarding cannabis.

Fans may recall that during the 2020 postseason, when NHL teams were forced to finish out the postseason in a bubble, reports of players accessing weed gummies for help relaxing started to leak.

The reality is that cannabis use among NHL players has never been much of a secret. If you don’t believe us, ask former Stanley Cup Winning Detroit Red Wing Darren McCarty, who opened up his own cannabis dispensaries across Michigan following a decade-plus long career of evading the league’s anti-drug program.

Ontario looks to make cannabis delivery, pickup for private stores permanent

 Ontario wants to permanently give private cannabis retailers the option of offering delivery and curbside pickup.

The proposal is part of a wide-ranging bill introduced in the legislature Thursday aimed at reducing red tape. Cannabis stores were given temporary permission to allow delivery and pickup during the pandemic.

The government says the proposed change will allow retailers to keep supporting physical distancing and other public-health measures.

Justin Bieber breaks into cannabis with Palms partnership on pre-rolled joints

Justin Bieber is entering the marijuana market with pre-rolled joints that’s he calling “Peaches,” the name of a song from his most recent album. The Canadian singer is working with a Los Angeles-based company, Palms, on the products. Palms specializes in pre-rolled cannabis products, with its 7-joint packs selling for US$32 at locations in Nevada and California, according to its website. (PHOTO BY MARIO ANZUONI/REUTERS)

“I’m a fan of Palms and what they are doing by making cannabis approachable and helping to de-stigmatize it — especially for the many people who find it helpful for their mental health,” Bieber said in an emailed statement. A spokeswoman declined to share financial terms of the collaboration.

Millions in drugs seized in West Nipissing, three charged

More than $8 million worth of drugs and $700,000 in cash was seized in a drug bust in the northeastern Ontario municipality of West Nipissing on Sept. 15. Ontario Provincial Police members from Sudbury and North Bay’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, North East Region Community Street Crime Unit, North East Region Emergency Response Team, Central and Western region Tactical Response Units, North East Region Canine Unit, North East Region Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit, Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team and North East Region Critical Incident Command executed Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants at two separate residences in West Nipissing.

As a Def Jam executive, Liles’ bonafides go back to his professional relationship with Jay-Z, himself an investor in cannabis, and overseeing Method Man and Redman’s 2001 film debut, “How High,” and the duo’s short-lived 2004 Fox series, “Method and Red.” 300 Entertainment, which Liles cofounded in 2012 with music biz vets Lyor Cohen, Roger Gold and Todd Moscowitz, is home to Megan Thee Stallion, Young Thug and Ambar Lucid, among other acts.

More than $1.45 million raised for B.C. residents affected by wildfires

Customers visiting BC Liquor Stores (BCLS) and BC Cannabis Stores (BCCS) gave generously to the Canadian Red Cross, with more than $1.45 million in donations going directly to assist B.C. residents affected by this year’s devastating wildfires.

This amount will be matched by both the Province and federal government, for a total exceeding $4.35 million.

Canadian cannabis producers expanding growing capacities on the world stage

Global demand for cannabis, both recreational and medicinal, continues to grow at healthy pace. According to a recent research report put out by Arcview Market Research and BDS Analytics, the next ten years are set to explode with spending on legal cannabis worldwide hitting $57 billion by 2027.

While much of that growth is expected to come from the United States, there are several other countries opening up to cannabis, whether it be through consumption or production and export.
