The French government is about to make some drastic changes to the enforcement of cannabis use laws. A government spokesperson revealed that by the end of 2017, France will end all prison terms for cannabis users.

Officials in former President Barack Obama’s Office of National Drug Control Policy wanted to ease federal regulations on marijuana, but legislative and political restrictions held them back from taking their case public, according to a new report by the Huffington Post.

But they never made their case publicly.

A bill that would ease marijuana possession laws in Wisconsin is getting major support—from a Republican.

Wisconsin state Representative Adam Jarchow introduced a measure Tuesday that would allow people caught with up to 10 grams of marijuana to simply pay a $100 fine instead of having to spend up to six months in jail and pay a $1,000 fine under current law, Wisconsin’s Journal Sentential reported. Presently, anyone caught a second time with weed in their possession is subjected to felony sentences.

Weed, pot, skunk, grass and dope are just a few of the words taken from the vast dictionary of slang terminology used to describe a certain plant.

A plant that has been widely used as far back as ten thousand years, long before the war on drugs began. In the world of agriculture it is seen by many as a miracle crop, and was one of the very first plants to be cultivated by humans.

Throughout history it’s had countless applications in numerous industries such as clothing, textiles, fuel, cooking and medicine. Its natural healing qualities have been utilised for centuries in civilisations all over the world and its medicinal benefits have been recognised by many cultures and religions.

In his first “state of the VA” address at the White House on May 31, Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin highlighted his department’s focus on wait times, accountability, quality of care, and veteran suicides. But it may have been one brief answer to a question after his speech that really signaled Shulkin’s openness to radical reforms for veteran health care.

Asked whether his emphasis on improving veteran mental health and preventing suicides meant he was considering  American Legion’s proposals to decriminalize marijuana and study the drug as a medicine, Shulkin responded: “I hope the people take a look at that.”

Gov. Phil Scott said he's sending the marijuana legalization bill, S.22, back to lawmakers with suggestions. He says the bill doesn't do enough to protect children, among other concerns.

Vermont's attorney general is worried that a legal marijuana bill could be rushed through the Legislature during a special veto session.

T.J. Donovan believes some form of marijuana legalization is inevitable — but he says lawmakers should focus on the state budget when they return to Montpelier on June 21-22.

Nevada may not get recreational marijuana sales in July as promised. 

In 1926, an American trade unionist, William Roberts, gave evidence on the effects of alcohol prohibition to the Senate Judiciary Committee:

“Everywhere we went there was plenty of distilled liquor, but seldom real beer. We found that the homes of the people had been turned into breweries and distilleries which turned out dangerous decoctions that if drunk to any extent would ruin the health of those who drank them. When asked why they drank such stuff they said there was nothing else to be obtained, and they invariably asked when were Members of Congress going to realize that the manufacture and sale of beer would make for true temperance.”

On May 23, 2017, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors greenlit the SLO County Counsel to pursue legal action against unregistered cannabis growers in the the unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County.
