But Henderson’s case is unusual because it raises fresh questions about the approach to pain management and changing attitudes about the legalization of marijuana.

Weed Is Winning, but Will the Marijuana Train Go off the Tracks?

Weed is winning in the polls, with a solid majority of Americans saying marijuana should be legal. But does that mean the federal government will let dozens of state pot experiments play out? Not by a long shot.

Health Care Refugees: Medical Marijuana and New Hope

Rich and Kim Muszynski know when their 5-year-old daughter, Abby, is about to have a grand mal seizure because her pupils enlarge, and she'll seem to fixate at something in the distance that only she can see.

Then it starts. Abby's extremities shake. She gasps for air.

By the time she turned 3, Abby had tried about eight different anti-seizure medications. None of them worked very well. Panicked to see their daughter getting worse and worse, the Muszynskis drove three hours to Orlando to see Dr. Ngoc Minh Le, a board certified pediatric neurologist and epileptologist.

Vancouver Dispensaries Wait for Ottawa's Marijuana Regulations with Cautious Optimism

Vancouver dispensary owners are anxious about the federal government’s plan to legalize recreational marijuana but confident the process will eventually be to their benefit.

“We’ve sat with the federal task force and apparently made some really good impressions there,” Jeremy Jacob, president of the Canadian Association of Medical Cannabis Dispensaries (CAMCD), told the Georgia Straight.

“Anne McLellan, the chair of the task force, she spent three hours at the Vancouver Compassion Club,” Jacob recounted. “And she came out saying, ‘How are we going to regulate these shops?’ And according to Mark Ware, the vice chair, he said that certain members of the task force had life-changing experiences while visiting dispensaries.”

Is Donald Trump Declaring War On Marijuana?

President-elect Donald Trump was far from the most pro marijuana candidate running for President this past year, and now that he's won the White House, cannabis advocates are worrying that his appointment of anti-marijuana supporter Jeff Sessions to Attorney General could derail recent advances. Is Sessions going to put a kibosh on marijuana's momentum?

Ahead of the November elections, four states had already passed recreational marijuana laws and 25 states had already passed medical marijuana laws. After the election, four more states now have recreational marijuana laws (California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada) on the books, and another four states have legalized medical marijuana, including Florida.

Report on Canada's marijuana legalization due this week

Ottawa’s march toward a controlled market for legal marijuana in Canada takes a major step forward this week with the delivery of a task force report that includes advice on a minimum age, product warnings and measures to prevent drug-impaired driving.

The report on pot legalization will be delivered to cabinet by Wednesday, said task force chair Anne McLellan, a lawyer and former federal cabinet minister in the Chrétien and Martin governments.

Ms. McLellan said her nine-person group – which has received 30,000 online submissions and visited U.S. states with experience in the legalization process – has authored a responsible, fair and balanced report that will “engender a lot of interest.”

Switzerland: Zurich Legislature is in Favour of Medical Cannabis

Zurich residents with illness may have a card that allows them to acquire cannabis more easily.

The medical cannabis user should be able to obtain it more easily in the city of Zurich. The City Council of Zurich followed up a postulate of the Greens by 80 votes to 36 last Wednesday .

It is already possible for patients to calm their pain by means of cannabis products. However, they require an authorization from the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).

But the procedure to obtain the latter is so complicated that many patients go and supply themselves with cannabis by illegal means, explained the Zurich Greens. Criminalizing these people makes no sense.

Medical cannabis could see movement in Iowa

With Iowa’s limited medical cannabis laws set to expire in July, state legislators and medical marijuana advocates say they see an opportunity to rewrite a more comprehensive set of rules when the Legislature reconvenes in January.

Rep. Clel Baudler, R-Greenfield, said he plans to propose a bill that would allow for the production and distribution of medical cannabis oil in Iowa — something many other Republicans previously have opposed.

“Last year there was a hodgepodge of panic, if you will, in my caucus to do something. Well if we’re going to do something, let’s do something smart,” Baudler said. “If these people want it grown in Iowa, processed in Iowa, I think we can make that happen.”

'Just say no': Australian Medical Association rejects Greens' new drug legalisation push

The Australian Medical Association has distanced itself from a new relaxed drugs approach being pushed by the Greens, saying it underestimates the harm illicit drugs do to the community.

Association president Michael Gannon told Fairfax Media he welcomed any initiative that shifted the public conversation about illicit drugs towards rehabilitation and treatment instead of policing and the justice system.

But he said he was "wary" of any push towards decriminalising illicit drugs, including cannabis.

"We should not underestimate the harm that illicit drugs do everyday in our community," Dr Gannon said on Sunday.
