Montana: Medical marijuana measure officially on ballot

A measure that seeks to expand the availability of Montana medical marijuana has qualified for the November ballot.

The Secretary of State’s Office certified Wednesday that supporters of Initiative 182 had gathered 26,668 verified signatures.

I-182 seeks to reverse legislative and legal action that gutted a 2004 voter-approved law that legalized the substance.

If approved, the measure would lift a three-patient limit for caregivers that is scheduled to go into effect next month, establish licensing fees to pay for administering the program and include post-traumatic stress disorders among the conditions for which medicinal marijuana can be used.

Here's One Group of Cops Who Are All in for Marijuana Legalization (Really)

Generally, one of the biggest opponents of marijuana legalization in California is the law enforcement profession — but that's not without at least one big exception.

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), which describes itself as "a group of police, judges, prosecutors and other criminal justice professionals advocating for marijuana legalization," this week endorsed Proposition 64, the effort to legalize recreational cannabis in California.

This isn't a surprise, given the organization's record of pro-pot stances. But it's still cool: These cops are basically saying Smoke ’em if you got ’em.

Democrats Include A Path To Marijuana Legalization In Their Platform In Another Surprising Nod To Sanders

Despite his loss in the primary for the Democratic nomination, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has scored notable victories in shaping the party platform. The platform will include policies actively campaigned for by Sanders over the past year, including raising the minimum wage to $15, expanding Social Security benefits, establishing stricter sanctions for Wall Street fraud, and even abolishing the death penalty — all policies rival and presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton either didn’t support or was lukewarm about.

Washington Poison Center unveils warning label for marijuana edibles

The Washington Poison Center unveiled a new warning label that could be used to prevent children from consuming marijuana edibles.

The poison center received a record-high 272 calls related to marijuana exposures last year, and already has more than 150 calls so far this year. The phone number included on the label is an emergency, confidential helpline.

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board will include the symbol on all edible marijuana products in its draft rules, set to be filed Aug. 10.

"Should the symbol become part of our permanent rules, this will be another important tool in preventing child access to marijuana," WSLCB Chair Jane Rushford said.

After a nearly four-hour public hearing Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors agreed to place a measure on the November ballot to tax legalized marijuana to bolster local funds for homeless services.
