Opinion: Pennsylvania is Right to Legalize Medical Cannabis

A bill to legalize medical marijuana in Pennsylvania passed through the House and is under review by the Senate. You can read about ithere.

The legality of cannabis by state varies, but suffice to say Pennsylvania remains in the minority of 11 states that haven’t legalized any form of the cannabis plant. A poll in Octoberindicated that 90 percent of Pennsylvanians favor medical cannabis prescribed through a doctor.

Florida: Backroom Briefing - A better shot for pot?

Floridians overwhelmingly favor medical marijuana. Again.

Just two years after a push for a constitutional amendment to legalize medical marijuana fell short — and with another push for pharmacological pot on deck for this year’s elections — a survey indicates the idea might have enough support to get added to the state Constitution when voters head to the polls in November.

In a poll released this week by the Saint Leo University Polling Institute, 68.1 percent of respondents said they strongly or somewhat agree with the statement, “The Florida Legislature should approve medical marijuana for Florida resident use.” Only 27.6 percent of those polled said they strongly or somewhat disagree with the idea.

US Federal regulators take high ground on Colorado’s marijuana

Two years after Colorado fully legalised the sale of marijuana, most banks in Denver still don’t offer services to the businesses involved.

Financial institutions are caught between state law that has legalised marijuana and federal law that bans it. Banks’ federal regulators don’t fully recognise such businesses and impose onerous reporting requirements on banks that deal with them.

Without bank accounts, the state’s burgeoning pot sector — 2500 licensed businesses with revenue of $US1 billion ($1.3bn) a year, paying $US130 million in taxes — can’t accept credit or debit cards from customers, Colorado officials say.

Presumed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton appeared on late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live last night where she was grilled by the host about her stance on cannabis legalization.

Kimmel casually asked Clinton why her approach on legalization isn’t quite as liberal as Bernie Sanders’ approach. Here was Clinton’s response in which she tells Kimmel that if made president she would let states continue to regulate themselves and would reschedule marijuana:

On Marijuana Legalization, Chris Matthews Sounds Dumber Than Donald Trump

During his "town hall" with MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Wednesday, Donald Trump said "I'm getting some very negative reports" about the consequences of marijuana legalization in Colorado. He did not get more specific than that, except to suggest that "there's a lasting negative impact" if "you do too much of it."

All presidential candidates have pledged to allow states to legalize

Every major presidential candidate in both the Republican and Democratic parties supports letting states legalize marijuana for the first time in American history. With Sen. Marco Rubio’s dropping out, there are no contenders left in the race who have pledged to enforce federal marijuana laws in states that opt to end prohibition. Clinton, Sanders, Trump, Cruz and Kasich all say they will support state legalization of Marijuana.

Looks like the politicians have seen the polls showing that people overwhelmingly support legalization and now are using it to get votes. Whatever has made them change their mind doesn’t matter though, as long as they follow through!

Georgia governor shuts down medical marijuana proposals

Even while the majority of Georgia residents stood in favor of legislation to establish a cultivation and distribution system that would prevent the state’s registered medical marijuana patients from engaging in drug trafficking, a new report shows that Governor Nathan Deal had doomed the concept of growing weed on Georgia soil long before the bill ever had a chance to be slaughtered in the state legislature.
