Australia: 'Stoner Sloth' anti-marijuana campaign relentlessly ridiculed

The National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre will ask the NSW Premier's department to retract its claim that the centre's research lay behind its #stonersloth anti-marijuana social media campaign which is going viral for all the wrong reasons.

The campaign, which depicts a stoned sloth failing in class and messing up at the dinner table, is being mercilessly ridiculed by social media users. Many are predicting that because sloths are cool among young people, the campaign character may be perceived as more loveable than pitiable and it will have the opposite effect of steering young people away from marijuana.

Ontario Wants Marijuana Regulations Guidance From Federal Government

Ontario is looking for federal government guidance on regulating clinics that sell medical marijuana and on how pot should be sold for recreational use once it's legalized.

The federal Liberals promised in this month's throne speech to "legalize, regulate and restrict access to marijuana" to keep it out of the hands of children while also denying criminals the financial profits.

The new government plans to remove possession of small amounts of marijuana from the Criminal Code and create new laws to more severely punish those who provide it to minors or drive while under its influence.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Police seized 130 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves worth around P2 million from a Toyota Hiace van they intercepted on Sunday (December 20) at the Balintawak exit of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

Acting on an intelligence tip, police officers from the National Capital Region office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (NCR-CIDG) conducted a surveillance in La Trinidad, Benguet, and trailed the van, which was headed for Manila.

As the van neared the NLEX, the driver, later identified as Moises Simsim, speeded up, apparently noticing he was being followed, according to Chief Supt. Victor Deona, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

In 2016, the Colorado Legislature and Gov. John Hickenlooper should try to give voters what they were promised.

Postal Service Enacts National Policy on Marijuana Advertisements

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is announcing a new national policy banning the mailing of publications that contain advertisements for marijuana.

“It is unlawful to enter as mail
advertisements that seek or offer to buy or sell Schedule I controlled substances, including marijuana,” the policy reads. If USPS personnel identify mail containing such content, they must “send a report to the local inspection service serving their facility, and the matter would then be turned over to the responsible law enforcement agencies for investigation if appropriate.”
