Mansfield police probe synthetic marijuana overdoses

MANSFIELD, Ohio— Authorities in north-central Ohio have been looking into synthetic marijuana abuse after a rash of overdoses.

Investigators in the Mansfield area say they saw a dramatic spike in overdoses in November and are trying to determine if it’s connected to the death of a 14-year-old boy.

Two teens found unresponsive in a vehicle this past week told deputies that they had been smoking synthetic marijuana. Both were charged with possession of drugs and drug abuse instruments.

Authorities in Mansfield say they had 25 overdoses last month and that many of could be attributed to synthetic marijuana use.

Pot legalization, water woes divide students

What’s on our teenagers’ minds? In its 59th year, the Las Vegas Sun Youth Forum is intended to answer just that question. The annual gathering, which this year attracted about 1,000 students, provided an opportunity for public high school juniors and seniors to discuss issues of the day in groups of 40 or so students and was moderated by a community leader. Each group selected one of its participants to reflect on the experience. This column is written by Rosemary Laurito, a senior at Silverado High School. Publisher and Editor Brian Greenspun is turning over his “Where I Stand” column to these young adults, who have something to say.

Raising minimum wage, marijuana may end up on 2016 ballot in Ohio

Issues such as marijuana legalization and raising the minimum wage may end up on Ohio ballots in November 2016, impacting presidential election turnout.

Political operators in swing state Ohio are eyeing hot-button ballot issues that could drive voter turnout for their candidates, similar to a tactic used successfully in 2004 when a gay marriage ban propelled conservative voters to the polls and helped Republican George W. Bush win Ohio and the White House.

The race in Ohio was one of the closest in the nation in 2004, where George W. Bush defeated John Kerry, 51-49 percent.

Are homeless people flocking to Seattle to smoke marijuana?

There is no hard evidence in Seattle that more homeless people are moving to the area because marijuana is legal. There may just be more people smoking in public because there is less enforcement, KIRO Radio's Dave Ross says. (AP)Dave Ross heard whispers that there is a link between

The KIRO Radio host on Seattle's Morning News said that there's a theory that because people aren't hassled for smoking marijuana in public – at least as much as other places – homeless people are gravitating toward the Emerald City.

It's now legal to give cannabis as a Christmas present in Washingt

THIS Christmas cannabis growers are wrapping up pot as presents for their friends – and it is 100 per cent legal. After a law change in February, this is the first time people in Washington D.C., USA, have legally been able to give the drug as a gift. Activist Adam Eidinger pushed for the change in the law and will be giving cannabis as gifts on Friday. He told Fox 5 News: “It's a lovely holiday season because you can give cannabis to your friends in Washington D.C. “Giving cannabis has become like the latest, ‘Hey, I baked a pie. I grew this. “Would you like it?’ And it is a very special gift.” Eidinger is focused on making sure people know how to smoke the drug legally.

Watch: With pot legalized in DC, some are gifting marijuana for the holidays

Christmas is approaching fast and this is a big week for people to load up on gifts to place under their tree.

Since Initiative 71 became legal back in February, it means this is the first holiday season you can legally give marijuana as a present to people over the age of 21 in the District of Columbia.

This is certainly a controversial subject, but marijuana activists estimate there are at least 500 home marijuana growers in the District.

Shatter, a super-high-potency marijuana, is appearing on the East Coast

As marijuana extracts expand their presence on the East Coast, an especially potent concentrate is appearing on law enforcement radar.

Shatter, a cannabis extract with about 80 percent THC content, is legal for recreational use in states such as Colorado and Washington, sold in medical marijuana dispensaries in other states and is faster-acting and far more easily concealed than marijuana.
