High schoolers use e-cigarettes to vape marijuana: US study

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Nearly one in five high school students who said they used electronic cigarettes to vaporize nicotine also used them to vaporize pot, according to a survey of nearly 4,000 Connecticut teens.

The study, published on Monday in the journal Pediatrics, is the first evidence that teens are using electronic cigarettes to vaporize cannabis, the researchers said.

For the First Time, Marijuana Use Eclipses Tobacco Smoking among Nation's

USA college students are now more likely to smoke marijuana on a daily basis than cigarettes, as marijuana smoking rates continue to climb, according to the results of a new survey from the University of Michigan.

Only five percent of college students reported using tobacco daily.

This question has remained unanswered as yet that why the use of marijuana is increasing day by day among teenagers, high school students or college students.

For the first time ever, more college age students report using marijuana more often than smoking cigarettes. You can read the entire study here.

About half of all college students reported they had not used any illicit drug in the previous year and three-quarters reported they hadn’t used drugs in the previous month.

Hear Oregon Rep. Ann Lininger Speak At The Oregon Medical Marijuana Business Conference

The first time that I heard Oregon Representative Ann Lininger speak was at my first Women Grow Portland chapter event. She talked about her involvement with the Oregon Measure 91 campaign, her involvement at the Oregon Legislature regarding marijuana policy, and what she thought the future of Oregon’s marijuana industry and marijuana laws could look light. It was very refreshing to hear an elected Oregon official talk so candidly and accurately about Oregon’s marijuana scene.

Daily marijuana use among college students rising

A University of Michigan study has found that drug use among college students has largely been trending up since 2007. Marijuana use has been on the rise, which should come as no surprise given recent legalization efforts. More worrisome, however, has been a rise in the use of other drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy.

The current rise in drug use comes after years of progress. For most types of drugs, use among college students actually dropped from the 1980’s through until about 2007. Drug abuse has been on the rebound over the last few years, however.

Sorry, But the Names for Weed Strains Are Kinda Meaningless

SO, MY BROTHER was like “Bro check out this Blueberry Kush,” and I was like, kind of sketched out because last week my cousin was like “Bro check out this Blueberry Kush,” and even then I was like “This Blueberry Kush looks a lot like the Purple Sour Diesel that I got from that girl I was contact dancing with at Golden Gate Park last weekend” and even that stuff wasn’t even all that purple. It was like, red colored. Plus I think it smelled different?

Ending marijuana prohibition long overdue

Marijuana legalization blurs political lines -- while Democrats in general are in favor, the issue does draw Republicans and libertarians. Issue 3, however, has opponents from both parties because of its economic model of limiting the commercial cultivation to 10 farms.(Photo: File)

I must respond to Auditor Dave Yost's pronouncement that decriminalization is good enough. Marijuana laws have been used to harass and keep the civilian population in check since they were first proposed ("Marijuana laws already lax" Sept. 2).

CSU researching hemp in hidden test plot in southwest Colorado

CORTEZ — Hemp being grown by Colorado State University in southwest Colorado is hidden in a crop of corn at a secret location, but Colorado farmers can ask for a tour of the 12 varieties being tested.

Growing hemp, a genetic cousin of marijuana, is still regulated by the federal government, mostly for research. The researchers have permission from the Colorado Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

“We’re keeping a low profile to avoid any trouble, like vandalism or theft by youth mistaking it for marijuana,” said Abdel Berrada, senior researcher with CSU’s Southwest Ag Research Station.

Industrial hemp is used to make paper, oil, biodiesel, rope, clothing, soap, and as a substitute for plastic and other products.

Who's legalizing marijuana in U.S.?

Advocacy groups have poured millions of dollars into legalizing both recreational and medical marijuana in states across the country.

One of the most powerful and influential groups — Washington, D.C.-based Marijuana Policy Project – was behind successful recreational measures in Alaska and Colorado, two of four states that now allow recreational use. MPP organizers hope to replicate those efforts in five other states during the 2016 elections, an undertaking they say will — if successful — prove significant for the effort to end marijuana prohibition.

One of them, Arizona, is a state that conservative icon Barry Goldwater called home. It frequently makes national headlines for controversial measures on immigration and gay rights.

New Zealand: Weed smokers wanted for study

Marijuana smokers aged between 18 and 45 are wanted for a university study on brain activity.

The only catch is that cannabis users who sign up for the study will have to lay off the 'wacky backy' during the trial.

Auckland University scientist Dr Bruce Russell said the research will examine whether regular recreational cannabis use affects decision-making.

He'll be pitting students with little or no history of cannabis use, against those who've been smoking it at least twice a day.

For around $20 an hour students will have their brain activity monitored to compare activity associated with thought processes when they're sober.

"We're not giving anyone any drugs — we just want to see what the effects might be," said Russell.
