Why do we use the term “marijuana” sparingly? The answer lies in the roots of the phrase, and our dedication to changing the perception of cannabis to one of wellness and healing

We prefer to use the word cannabis, because it is a respectful, scientific term that encompasses all the many different uses of the plant.

The word "marijuana" or “marihuana” is an emotional, pejorative term that has played a key role in creating the negative stigma that still tragically clings to this holistic, herbal medicine. Most cannabis users recognize the "M word" as offensive, once they learn its history.

NEW YORK: Marijuana-infused wine is the latest craze in wine-making, and it also adds flavor and structure to wines.

Carl Ruck of Boston University has said that fortifying herbal additives to wine has been documented by archaeological evidence.

Ruck explained that there were a few Bronx agers who were thought to have used pot-wine as a shortcut to fun, Vinepair reported. 

He said that cannabis would be one of the less dangerous additives entries in the wine fortification market, and added that evidence for the additives came from folkloric traditions and the practice was apparently often employed in the making of home brews.

Marijuana wine is available and legal in America, and probably will become increasingly so in the years to come.

Even if the user misidentified it as ‘recreational.’

The medical cannabis movement is sweeping through the nation with such momentum that even conservative legislators are evolving to see the benefits.  All cannabis use appears imminent west of Colorado and north of Virginia while medical cannabis is plowing through the South.  This is exciting news, but we must remain diligent and see this to the end.  There is one phrase that is slowing cannabis law reform; “Recreational Cannabis.”

Yellow Springs is a small college town in Ohio that has more than one head shop and a lot of tie-dye and hemp.

Many would consider it ground zero for likely supporters of the referendum on the ballot this November that could make Ohio the fifth state to legalize recreational and medical marijuana.

But the proposal is drawing some unusual opposition — and it's coming from residents who generally support legalizing marijuana.

There’s been a lot of buzz about pot and wine recently. It’s hard to separate the toga party contingent’s thirst for a potion into which two psychoactive substances have been crammed, from the more sober, scholarly consideration of the 3,700+ year history of fortifying wine with cannabis. And the allegedly potent healing powers of cannabis-wine are almost always overlooked, advocates complain.

Come on. Isn’t pot-wine just an elevated partying tool? Or can it actually help people who suffer from various maladies? Also – is it any good? And where can we get it?

Researchers at the University of Florida have found that the theory of a “gateway drug” is not associated with marijuana – results from the Guttman scale indicated that alcohol represented the gateway drug, leading to the use of tobacco, marijuana, and other illicit substances. Furthermore, students who used alcohol “exhibited a significantly greater likelihood of using both licit and illicit drugs”.

In an interview with Raw Story, co-author Adam E. Barry said that his studies were intended to correct some of the propaganda that has infected American culture since the “Reefer Madness” era.

Backers of proposal say they will join talks with city and business leaders to try to work out compromise

Activists behind a proposed Denver ballot initiative to allow some marijuana use in bars and other businesses say they will pull the measure, The Denver Post has confirmed.

Their new goal: crafting a compromise measure with city and business leaders.

The verbal agreement with a group that includes City Attorney Scott Martinez averts a public vote in November — one that might have allowed more extensive pot consumption in publicly accessible places than city officials and some business leaders were comfortable with.

It was 20 years ago that Trevor Holness was arrested for marijuana possession in Vancouver. He had just turned 18 and was out with friends at the annual fireworks celebration on English Bay, Holness recounted in a telephone interview.

Today he lives in Burnaby as a family man with a career and a mortgage. But Holness conceded that back then, he was “a bit of a delinquent”.

“I was pulled aside during an altercation between my friends and some other friends,” he said of that night. “And I was arrested.”
