Cuomo's Health Department to expand regulation that banned synthetic pot after related hospitalizations

The drugs are marketed as incense, herbal mixtures or potpourri to mask their actual purpose, the state says. They carry such street names as Spice, K2, Green Giant and Smacked.

ALBANY — The state is smoking out new variants of synthetic pot after a rash of hospitalizations statewide related to the dangerous product.

Gov. Cuomo’s Health Department is set to expand a 2012 regulation that banned a whole range of synthetic cannabis-like products and bath salts.

Manufacturers have found ways around the ban by using different chemical combinations not referenced in the 2012 regulation that created even stronger compounds, Cuomo says.

YOUR HANDY GUIDE TO CANNABIS STORAGE

At some point in our cannabis careers, we’re all posed with the question, “How long is my cannabis good for?” Maybe you’ve found a few nugs tucked in your winter jacket from last year’s ski trip, or when harvesting a medical crop you may need a way to safely store the excess buds until you’re ready to consume the fruits of your labor. Like a fine wine cellar or whiskey barrel, cannabis is best when aged in a cool, dark place, and while there is no steadfast expiration date for cannabis, there are a few key elements to consider when storing cannabis for any extended period.

Former 98 Degrees star Nick Lachey among investors in potential Ohio marijuana grow center

AKRON, Ohio — Ohio resident and former boy band star Nick Lachey is among five investors in one of 10 marijuana grow centers that would be created across the state under a proposed ballot issue.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports ResponsibleOhio is attempting to get an issue on the Nov. 3 ballot that would legalize marijuana for medical and personal use by adults 21 years or older.

The ballot issue would limit the growing to specific locations where groups of investors financing the operations own or have the option to buy property.

The 98 Degrees singer, most recently a television actor, is hoping to bring a grow center to Hudson.

Marijuana: yes in the US, not France

The American States, one by one, are decriminalizing or legalizing cannabis. France bans the holding of a debate on the same subject: the absence of influential lobbies in favor of legalizing and embarrassment of politicians on the subject perpetuate the status quo. Yet the French are the first consumers in Europe and the French state one of the most extravagant and ineffective in its fight against marijuana trafficking. The overall positive effects of the legalization of cannabis in the states of Washington and Colorado should initiate discussion in France.

OPP warning public to be on the lookout for outdoor marijuana grow-ops

CALEDON, Ont. - Provincial police say summer means another season for outdoor marijuana grow operations and are asking for the public's help in identifying possible growers and grow locations.

Police say marijuana plants have already been planted during the months of May and June.

OPP say common locations for grow-ops are swamps, corn fields, and wooded areas, though growers may also rent a rural property with acreage.

Investigators say the growers return to maintain the plants about every two weeks until they are ready for harvesting in the fall.

Subscription boxes are all the rage, but will they catch on for legal pot?

There really is a subscription box for everything nowadays and that includes marijuana.

Beauty enthusiasts have Birchbox. Dogs and their people have BarkBox. Men who don’t embrace their 5 o’clock shadows have the Dollar Shave Club. Foodies and drinkers have as many options as there are months in a year.

And now medical marijuana users in California have at least two choices: PotBox and Marvina.

Through its curated monthly subscription service, PotBox is hoping it can make ethically-sourced farm-to-bong pot as popular as ethically-sourced as farm-to-table food.

Home Growing Flourishes in France, Europe's Cannabis Consumption Leader

While in Romania only 1.6% of the population consumes cannabis, in France 40.9% do so, more than in Denmark or Spain. And it’s no great mystery why: France, geographically, is a corridor for grass coming from North Africa and the rest of Europe. Moreover, home growing has recently increased considerably.

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction recently published its annual report on the Continent's most consumed substances, concluding that cannabis is a plant in high demand among Europeans, with 78.9 million people recognizing having consumed it.
