Is it Legal to Get High on 'Bhang' in India?

Holi is a day when Indians cover friends, family and even strangers with colored powder and water. It is also traditionally celebrated with the consumption of cannabis-infused goodies.

For centuries bhang–which is a paste created by grinding cannabis leaves–has been mixed in milk, laddoos or pakoras as a special treat with a kick for Holi, the Hindu festival of color and spring.

Technically, the cultivation, sale, purchase, transportation and importation of cannabis is usually prohibited in India.

Does that mean everyone participating in the bhang revelry on Holi is breaking the law?

    Texas lawmakers considering marijuana reform

Currently, there are 10 bills in Austin regarding decriminalizing or legalizing medicinal or recreational marijuana.

Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia have legalized medicinal and or recreational pot.

"Still haven't seen any reports on rioting, looting, society hasn't collapsed in the great state of Alaska and hasn't collapsed in any of the other states that have experimented with legalization or decriminalization or medical marijuana," Jake Syma said.

Some Texas law makers considering adding Texas as the 24th.

There are eight bills in the House and two in the Senate, all regarding marijuana reform.

"I'm interested in how this goes, I hope it gets some legs, but I doubt it," Kenny Ketner said.

Jamaica's Marijuana Decriminalisation: Will the Rest of the Caribbean Follow Suit?

Jamaica has long been the Caribbean island that the developed world most associates with liberal marijuana use.

This perception might stem from the fact that the island's biggest global icon, the late reggae musician Bob Marley, was a committed Rastafarian, who routinely smoked herb as path to deeper spiritual awareness. In this sense, weed might seem as synonymous with Jamaica as reggae music, but despite tourists flocking from the Global North with dreams of spliffing up on a beach and feeling irie, cannabis use was  illegal on the island until recently.

Mexican cartels shifting into heroin as more USA states legalise marijuana

The growing legalization of cannabis in the United States is forcing Mexico's drug cartels to rethink their illicit business model, turning to opium poppy plantations and domestic pot consumption, experts say.

Americans have been legally allowed to light up joints in the US capital since late last month, joining Washington state and Alaska, while Oregon will follow suit in July.

A total of 23 US states have legalized the drug for medical use, and opinion polls show that a slim majority of Americans favor legalization.

The changes in the world's biggest drug market appear to have prompted the criminal organizations producing narcotics in Mexico to switch strategies.

Uruguay Plans Pharmacy-Run Marijuana Sales in 2015 Under Vazquez

(Bloomberg) -- Recreational pot will hit pharmacy shelves in Uruguay as President Tabare Vazquez moves to fully implement a sweeping cannabis law signed by his predecessor, a senior government policy maker said.

“The law is going to be implemented and we are going to end up selling marijuana in the pharmacies like the law says,” Milton Romani, secretary-general of the National Drugs Board, said in an interview Thursday.

Wedged between Brazil and Argentina, Uruguay became the first country in the world to regulate cannabis for recreational, medicinal and industrial uses in December 2013. Former President Jose “Pepe” Mujica pitched the measure to Uruguayans as a way to allow legal growers to undercut a black market that government estimates put at about 22 tons a year.

Ben and Jerry's considers marijuana-infused ice cream

Don't bogart that spoon, man. Lemme get a hit off that cone, dude. Pass the bowl ... of ice cream?

Could Ben and Jerry's, the counterculture snack empire gone mainstream, be planning a marijuana-infused ice cream?

"Makes sense to me. You know, combine your pleasures," co-founder Ben Cohen said in an interview with HuffPost Live that's been buzzing among marijuana aficionados since it aired last month. Like attitudes about marijuana itself, the story went mainstream this week.

It makes some sense. Co-founder Jerry Greenfield noted that the duo has some experience with, uh, substances. And the company already gives a nod to the marijuana culture with flavor names such as "Half Baked."
