They also recommended that edibles be properly labelled, stored in child-resistant containers and stored out of sight and reach of pets and children.

“With such categorical fears now shown to be largely unfounded, this should provide the basis to move forward on more nuanced grounds.”

Cannabis market still figuring itself out

young marijuana plant starting to grow

The three-year anniversary of Canada legalizing cannabis is quickly approaching, and leading into legalization there were many predictions from all sides.

Some predicted an increase in driving under the influence, not being able to breathe while walking down the street, or children getting their hands on cannabis easier than ever.

Other discussions would centre around the economic viability of cannabis retail stores. How many could Medicine Hat sustain? Will stores be able to compete with the grey market? How would product quality be?

Giving and Receiving store owner Ryan Bartsoff says a lot has changed since opening his store in early 2019.

Family and friends mourn death of teen who inspired families to explore cannabis for seizures

CALGARY -- The death of 15-year-old Mia Wilkinson has rocked her family and friends, the teen girl passed away suddenly on August 12.

“It really hits home and it's gut wrenching,” said Kendra Myhre, a long-time friend of the family.

“I am so upset and hurt and devastated.”

Mia was diagnosed with Ohtahara syndrome when she was a baby, which causes her to have severe seizures and sometimes she could have up to 100 episodes every day. When Mia was about seven years old, her mom Sarah explored cannabis oil and it changed Mia’s life.

Starting today, Albertans can purchase cannabis pre-rolls for the suggested retail price of $1

A new promotion from cannabis marketing company A Higher Level of Thought (AHLOT) will give Albertans the chance to sample pre-roll joints from Grizzlers, a legacy brand turned legal, for just $1.

The sampling program, which begins today, could soon roll out in other provinces as well, says AHLOT CEO Greg Pantelic.

Customers can purchase a single 0.5-gram Grizzlers pre-roll from licensed retailers in Alberta and Pantelic says the company is working to offer products from other licensed producers at a “sample friendly price point.”

“It’s somewhat like Costco on a Saturday afternoon, where you’re able to try some free samples. And, if you like it, you can pick up the full size, as well,” says Pantelic. “That’s what we’ve tried to do.”
