Manhattan Beach Bans Medical Marijuana

The Manhattan Beach City Council passed a ban on all but the private storage and use of medical marijuana at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night.

The temporary ordinances were introduced as “interim” and “urgency” legislation that prohibits cultivating, selling and delivering medical marijuana in the city.

The city banned medical marijuana dispensaries in 2008, however, under the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Ac, which takes effect March 1, 2016, cities must take action if they want to ban or regulate medical marijuana cultivation. Otherwise, the California Department of Food and Agriculture will become the sole licensing authority for medical marijuana cultivation applications, said City Attorney Quinn Barrow.

E-cannabis: California Companies Connect Marijuana with Tech

The unlikely, and yet totally natural, marriage of marijuana and technology is the next big step in the evolution of medical cannabis. Aptly nicknamed the “green rush,” California tech companies are clamoring to fill the gaps in the state's supply chain for on-demand medical marijuana with the application of modern, mobile technologies.

Like the rise of Lyft, Uber and Airbnb, a flood of new applications are simplifying access and giving cannabis patients an easier route to a wider variety of products.

A new portable device to detect marijuana use almost right away

California based Hound Labs Inc. is claiming to have made a breakthrough in the rush to develop a portable device capable of detecting THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in the breath of someone that has recently smoked a substance containing the chemical. They claim also that their device will soon be small enough for use by law enforcement to remove impaired drivers from the road.

It's so easy to get marijuana in California, I got a prescription and delivery without leaving my desk

November marked a rather important milestone since my recent move to California. My state driver's license arrived in the mail, and I bought weed legally for the first time.

Before relocating from New York to the Golden State, I heard it was inconceivably easy to get cannabis here (though admittedly, it's now even more convenient in places like Washington and Oregon). All you had to do was tell a doctor you suffer from back pain, and voilà, the stoner-fairy godmothers would descend and grant you a medicinal marijuana ID card, allowing you to possess quantities pursuant with California law.

California Company Claims to have Developed Marijuana Breathalyzer

Don’t smoke and drive.

An Oakland company working with scientists from the University of California at Berkeley is claiming a breakthrough in the race to develop an instant roadside marijuana breathalyzer.

Hound Labs Inc, whose device is also uniquely designed to double up as an alcohol breathalyzer, is among a handful of companies and researchers hoping to capitalize on increasingly relaxed marijuana laws in the United States.

Hound Labs said on Wednesday it had found an accurate way to measure THC – the psychoactive component in cannabis – within one or two blows. The portable device is designed to help determine if a driver is impaired from recent marijuana use.

The Medical Side of Dabbing

By

When dabbing first exploded onto the medical cannabis scene in California, I viewed the practice with more than a little trepidation. I wrote an article for Harborside Health Center’s newsletter, Illuminator, questioning whether the practice was a wellness-oriented use of cannabis. I had no idea what I was in for. Both mine and Harborside’s Facebook pages lit up.

Santa Maria OKs medical marijuana deliveries, denies cultivation

Santa Maria's City Council made some big decisions Tuesday night regarding how medical marijuana should be grown and delivered.

City Councilmember Jack Boysen tells KSBY the council voted 5-0 against the cultivation of medical marijuana within city limits and in favor of allowing deliveries of medical marijuana to patients in Santa Maria from legitimate dispensaries located outside of the city.

Santa Maria has a law on the books that blocks medical marijuana dispensaries. However, city code does not ban deliveries from outside of town.

Tuesday night's decisions come two months after Governor Jerry Brown signed a package of bills called the Medical Marijuana Regulatory and Safety Act to regulate medical marijuana use.

Is the Word "Marijuana" Offensive?

Is the word "marijuana" offensive?

Over the years, plenty of people have pressed this argument — and recent indications suggest that the debate could be heating up again in Colorado and beyond.

A new article from the Summit Daily goes after "Colorado stoner stereotypes," with various business owners in the Aspen area expressing antipathy for terms that are deemed derogatory, including "stoner" and "dope."

But a main focus of folks at LeafAspen dispensary is using the term "cannabis" in place of "marijuana" and encouraging others to do likewise.

High Times At Rusty Shovel Ranch

Marijuana farmers in California’s fabled Emerald Triangle are ready to go legit. Will it be enough for them to survive?

YTONVILLE, California — Standing in a clearing high in the hills of California’s Mendocino County and surrounded by oak and fir trees, Kevin Porter gazes with pride at his plot of marijuana plants. The 25 bushes in this part of Porter’s 150-acre Rusty Shovel Ranch lend a light aroma of high-grade cannabis to the mid-morning breeze.
