The finger-pointing at the marijuana industry continues -- this time from those who worry that indoor farms use too much electricity.

We're less than three weeks away from the calendar ticking over to a new year -- a year that very well could be the most important for the marijuana industry to date.

Bureaucratic Hurdles & Spotty Access To Medicinal Cannabis Gives Rise To ‘Cannabis Refugees’

“I tried to everything I could while in Alabama, but now that we are here [in California] it’s much better and we have a support system,” the mother of a daughter with epilepsy tells MintPress of their decision to pack their bags and head to a state where medicinal cannabis is available.

MENDOCINO COUNTY, California — Cannabis has a rich history of medicinal use going back thousands of years. It is only in the last couple hundred years that the plant has faced restrictive laws and prohibition, particularly in the United States, where it’s been classified as a Schedule I drug with no known medicinal benefits and a high rate of addiction since the Controlled Substances Act was passed in 1970.

Benicia Planning Commission seeks to allow medical marijuana delivery

Benicia >> Benicia’s planning commission is recommending the city to allow the delivery of medical marijuana within city limits.

All commissioners, except for George Oakes who was absent, voiced their support on the issue during Thursday night planning commission meeting.

“I wouldn’t want to see access to a legal product be prohibited by the fact that people can’t deliver,” Commissioner Steve Young said. “I don’t think that’s compassionate.”

Currently, Benicia doesn’t allow dispensaries, deliveries and the public use of marijuana. Cultivation is also limited to indoors only if there is no “visual or olfactory evidence of cultivation detectable from the public right of way or from adjoining properties.”

Sean Parker, Former Facebook President, Behind Marijuana Legalization in California 2016

Two California initiatives to legalize recreational marijuana in the Golden State, one backed by billionaire and former Facebook president Sean Parker, came together this week to amplify their shot at landing a spot on the 2016 ballot.

The collaboration comes after the two groups negotiated for weeks behind the scenes and came to the conclusion that competing against each other would weaken the possibility that either initiative would be on the ballot in California on Election Day. The state's Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and the Coalition for Cannabis Policy Reform both support the initiative, Reuters reported.

As the Examiner reports, "Cancer survivors, those living with HIV, business owners and medical marijuana dispensary operators were among the 48 applicants" for the seats, of which there will be a total of 14 — the committee left three open to be filled at a later date.
