Medical marijuana facility gets zoning approval in Tecumseh, Ontario

Zoning to accommodate a medical marijuana facility in Oldcastle has been approved by the Town of Tecumseh.

Town council hosted a public meeting Tuesday night to discuss the operation on Outer Drive and approved the zoning change.

The property owner asked to re-zone the land so it can be sold to a prospective buyer called Global Organiks, which wants to open a medical marijuana facility there.

That company plans to buy the land and then hire about 10 workers to start, and 27 when at full capacity.

Global Organiks originally planned to build five new greenhouses, but now says it will build a steel structure instead.

The proposed facility would produce about 50,000 grams of medical marijuana every month.

A Visit To Mettrum’s Agripharm Facility

Peter Miller began the arduous process of seeking a license to produce cannabis in Creemore, Ontario, in mid-2012. With a background in tech and commerce and a family with deep roots in the region’s agricultural community, the then 24-year-old Miller sought to bring these two worlds together with a high-tech, indoor cannabis production facility.

Brent Zettl of Prairie Plant Systems takes run at Saskatoon pot dispensary

It's not that Brent Zettl thinks there's no place for a medical marijuana dispensary in Saskatoon.

It just shouldn't be dispensing marijuana.

Rather, he said it has a role to inform the public and people who use medical pot.

Zettl is president of Prairie Plant Systems Inc.. The company has worked in the medical marijuana field since 1990. Zettl asked to speak to the planning and development committee about the city's first medical marijuana dispensary.

"I'm here to straighten out some facts," he said.

"These storefront operations should be seen as drug traffickers." - Brent Zettl

Zettl takes issue with claims made by the dispensary on several fronts.

Joy Davies, B.C. Liberal Candidate, Defends Past Remarks On Pot

OTTAWA — A Liberal candidate in British Columbia's Lower Mainland is standing by comments she made on Facebook saying that marijuana causes no harm to children and decreases domestic violence, and that the Canadian Cancer Society supports big pharma.

South Surrey–White Rock candidate Joy Davies told The Huffington Post Canada on Wednesday that she believes Canadians are ill-informed about the benefits and risks of marijuana.

Health Canada has "harmed millions of Canadians," she said, by preventing easy access to marijuana to those suffering with chronic pain.

But her opponent in the hotly contested riding — a former safe Tory seat — believes Davies is out of touch with the riding's priorities.

Q&A with Dr. Dave Hepburn, B.C. doctor going on medical marijuana speaking tour

Victoria GP aims to challenge some of the stigma around medical marijuana

Medical marijuana can be an effective medication when it is properly prescribed. That's the message a B.C. doctor will be giving his fellow physicians on a cross-country speaking tour this month.

Dr. Dave Hepburn, a general practitioner based in Victoria, told On the Island host Gregor Craigie that he will give talks in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Nova Scotia over a five-week period.

He has been giving similar talks over the past year to a varied audience of general practitioners and specialists, hoping to inform and encourage physicians who may have reservations around prescribing medicinal cannabis.

Some Ontario Doctors Cancelling Out-Of-Province Cannabis Documents

Some out-of-province patients accessing the MMPR via telemedicine clinics in Ontario are being told they will no longer be able to use these clinics.

In the past few weeks, Lift has recently begun hearing from patients who live outside Ontario and have accessed or attempted to access a medical document for medical cannabis (re: prescription) using telemedicine from a doctor in Ontario, only to be denied. The reasoning behind this change remains unclear. Some clinics have blamed Health Canada, but Health Canada has publicly issued no such rule at this time.

One such patient, Chase, 27 of Saskatoon, told us that he recently received a call from his clinic in Ontario informing him that the doctor will no longer be evaluating out of province patients.

The Canadian Medical Cannabis Industry Association (CMCIA) announced on 1 September that it has received a letter from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), officially confirming that medical cannabis purchased by an individual from a licensed producer under Health Canada’s Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) would be an allowable medical expense under the Income Tax Act.

Canada Federal election 2015: the parties' stances on marijuana

Who doesn’t like B.C. bud? It’s a big deal in the province, home to a significant number of both legal and illegal growers, and to people like the Prince of Pot himself, Marc Emery.

In a poll earlier this summer, Insights West found 67% of British Columbians supported the legalization of marijuana in Canada — only 7% thought pot should always be illegal without exception.

There was so much interest in the herb locally that at one point, half of Health Canada’s 40,000 patients under the old marijuana access regulations were in B.C.

Even today, the province’s six licensed producers — the highest count next to Ontario’s 14 — indicates the continued interest in cannabis.
