Debate over regulating medicinal marijuana at City Hall tonight

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – How do you feel about the proliferation of pot dispensaries in Vancouver? The often heated debate over regulating medical marijuana will be front and centre at City Hall this evening. As of a few days ago, more than 60 people had already signed up to speak at the public hearing.

Marijuana activist Dana Larsen will be there and he says regulation in Vancouver would be a big step forward for dispensaries and for Canada. However, he’s hoping to have a few things in the proposal altered.

“The one big thing is they want to limit us from being 300 metres away from schools and community centres and other dispensaries, and you know, liquor stores only have 150 metre limit.”

Survey: Nearly One Out Of Six MS Patients Use Cannabis Therapeutically

One-quarter of patients with multiple sclerosis report having used cannabis therapeutically and nearly one out of six (16 percent) currently use it to treat symptoms of the disease, according to survey data commissioned by the North American Research Committee on MS.

Over 5,600 MS patients participated in the survey, the results of which were presented last week at the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Center 2015 Annual Meeting.

Most subjects who had tried marijuana said it mitigated disease symptoms, such as spasticity or pain. Only five percent of patients surveyed said that cannabis said it did not provide some level of relief.

Hendrix cannabis plan could go up in smoke

Jimi Hendrix is to be the face of a range of cannabis products, a Canadian company has announced – but they’re already being faced with a legal fight.

Nutritional High say they’ve cut a deal with Purple Haze Properties to use Hendrix’s name and likeness on edible items including “hemp oil infused gummy bears, heard candies and health and energy drinkables.”

Products are legal in 48 US state because they contain no HCT, a leading active element of cannabis. The firm aims to market packages using the names Purple Haze and Stone Free.

Purple Haze Properties is run by the iconic guitarist’s brother Leon. But Experience Hendrix, chaired by sister Janie, say he doesn’t have the rights to arrange the deal.

Public hearings on Vancouver's marijuana dispensaries set to begin

Public hearings begin Wednesday to help fine-tune Vancouver’s plans to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries – and shape a policy that one advocate says will be copied by cities across Canada.

Dana Larsen, director of the Vancouver Dispensary Society and operator of two dispensaries, noted the City of Victoria has already cited Vancouver as a model for policies it is developing as it grapples with the issue.

“A lot of smaller cities don’t have the resources to devote time and staff effort to analyzing this and figuring out what these rules should be,” Mr. Larsen said in an interview on Tuesday. “They’re going to copy whatever Vancouver does and tweak it a little bit for their own community.”

TORONTO — A new law has been passed which imposes hefty fines for driving under the influence of marijuana in this province. I thought this was a good time to look at what evidence we actually have for the effects of marijuana on driving and accidents.

Understanding of neurological mechanisms opens door to new treatments

Irvine, Calif., June 9, 2015 — Brain inflammation caused by chronic nerve pain alters activity in regions that regulate mood and motivation, suggesting for the first time that a direct biophysical link exists between long-term pain and the depression, anxiety and substance abuse seen in more than half of these patients, UC Irvine and UCLA researchers report.

Vancouver's pot shops: Everything you need to know about marijuana dispensaries

Visitors wandering through Vancouver could be forgiven for assuming marijuana is legal in the city: dozens of storefronts have sprouted up in recent years advertising pot for sale under the guise of medicine. Here's what you need to you know about Vancouver's pot dispensaries and what the city plans to do.

Cannabis Dispensary Outlet by NullChaotica

Which will remain nameless, although it wouldn't be hard to figure out which one of the 100 in Vancouver currently this particular one is. Especially if certain metadata or GPS info were available.

This is one of the few strict ones, which verifies the regular straight GP/MD doctor's info and signature. Most other outlets require a minimum age of 19, like booze and smokes, but this outlet will allow 18 year olds to obtain a wide array of cannabis products. But only after verification of the application info.

Groups protesting Vancouver's proposed regulations on medical marijuana dispensaries

A group called the Coalition for Dispensary Free Communities is protesting Vancouver’s proposed regulations for marijuana dispensaries ahead of its June 10 public hearing.

Currently, there are over 90 medical marijuana dispensaries around the city — but there are only 16 licensed producers in Canada. The new regulations put forward in a report by the Vancouver’s chief license inspector proposes marijuana businesses to be at least 300 metres away from schools and community centres. Under the new regulations, the businesses will also require to pay an operating fee of $30,000 per year, as well as acquiring a “Good Neighbour Agreement.”
