That marijuana smell: Officials eye grows in Colorado mountain town

Pitkin County commissioners met privately with their attorney Wednesday to discuss their potential legal standing in the neighborhood flap over cannabis smells emitting from a Basalt-area grow facility.

Attorney John Ely could not comment about the half-hour talk but said a work session will be held for the public to chime in on the odors that originate from the High Valley Farms indoor grow center, which supplies Silverpeak Apothecary’s medical and recreational dispensaries in Aspen. The farm and the dispensaries share common ownership.

It’s not just High Valley Farms that’s responsible for the stench, said Mimi Trombatore, an employee of Gallegos Corp., which has offices in the Holland Hills Business Center.

Major Colorado pot shop chain lays off 45% of its employees

One of Colorado’s largest chains of marijuana stores on Wednesday laid off 65 employees — or about 45 percent of the company’s total workforce, according to owner Shawn Phillips.

The pot layoffs are believed to be the largest in Colorado’s 16-month recreational era.

Phillips owns nine cannabis stores in Colorado, all of which are part of the Strainwise-branded network, and he called the cuts “drastic” but “temporary” in a letter he wrote to employees obtained by The Cannabist.

Denver marijuana tax refund: Plan for city ballot measure passes first step

Denver voters in November may decide whether the city can keep its first-year haul from a 3.5 percent special recreational marijuana sales tax.

The city’s ballot question would join a likely statewide measure asking the same question about $58 million collected by the state last year from its separate marijuana tax. In Denver’s case, at stake is nearly $5.3 million.

A City Council committee approved the wording 5-0 Wednesday. The measure is expected to get the council’s final sign-off June 8.

Pot Is A Hallucinogen That Lets Satan Devour You, Says Colorado GOP Rep.

Gordon Klingenschmitt, the supreme moron of the Colorado state legislature, is back on his radio show, now that Colorado’s latest legislative session has ended. His controversial statements have, in the past, angered even some of his fellow Republicans, but he’s one of those religious right-wingers that doesn’t seem to care. He’s upset about Colorado legalizing pot, because the hallucinations it causes are actually invitations for demons to possess users.

Hemp Seed On Its Way To Colorado, With A Federal Blessing

Following months of wrangling, the Colorado Department of Agriculture has secured a permit from federal drug enforcement officials to import industrial hemp seed from foreign countries.

The seeds are essential to kick-start Colorado’s hemp industry, which state agriculture officials say has seen a bottleneck in research and cultivation due to a lack of viable seed stocks

Colorado’s hemp registration program has taken off since the implementation of Amendment 64, which also legalized recreational marijuana in the state. With the new federal permit, the first shipments of seed could be here in two weeks, mostly from Italian universities.
