MassRoots Note Default Raises Questions About Company’s Future

MassRoots Inc (OTCMKTS:MSRT) has been on a slippery slope recently, grinding lower seemingly every day, after failing to attain new funding support as a likely consequence of a failed bid to uplist to the Nasdaq exchange in May. Just before that time (in mid-March 2016), the Company took on over a million in secured six month notes which came due last month. In an 8K a week ago, MSRT put out notice that they were in default.

Marijuana Edibles Come Under New Colorado Regulations as of October 1

The Marijuana Enforcement Division has updated Colorado laws regarding cannabis. And starting October 1, one major change will affect customers — while another affects product manufacturers.

After conducting a few studies, MED determined that the THC levels between flower, edibles and concentrates were so different that the state's regulations had to change regarding how much of each substance could be sold at one time. There's a higher level of THC in concentrates than flower, for example, so the MED didn't think customers should be able to purchase the same amount of each.

Considerations for marijuana legalization in Canada: Legal cannabis brings tax revenue for Denver, but also new expenses

From a fiscal perspective, legalizing pot seems like a win-win scenario for cities. In theory, marijuana sales tax revenue can fill gaps in the budget, while police and prosecutors spend less time and money going after residents for marijuana possession.

But Toronto city council might want to hold off on planning a spending spree — because legal marijuana costs money, too.

In Denver, the capital of a state where recreational pot sales have been legal for almost three years, much of the tax revenue from marijuana gets spent regulating the very industry that generated it.

As edible marijuana sales soar, Colorado tries a new regulatory tactic

Pot-friendly Colorado is still working on the perfect recipe for regulating edible marijuana, in the face of data showing an increase in accidental ingestion of marijuana-infused treats.

The state's latest attempt legislates new warning labels for edibles, which have become increasingly popular. Through June of this year, consumers spent $73.5 million US on edible pot — more than 12 per cent of total marijuana sales, according to cannabis data firm BDS Analytics.

Wholesale cannabis price drops 40 percent

According to Tradiv, a cannabis trading platform based in Boulder, wholesale cannabis prices have fallen from approximately $2,500 per pound in October of 2015 to around $1,500 per pound in August of this year.

In the beginning of Colorado’s legal market, companies didn’t know what to expect in terms of demand or supply but one things was for sure, it was growing quickly. The price point was high, in part a reflection of the novelty of legal cannabis and pent up demand. Now almost three years old, the market is beginning to stabilize, but consumers should expect a few more tremors as the foundation of the market shifts and settles into place.

Denver police need more room, money to store seized marijuana since legalization

Since the legalization of recreational marijuana, the Denver Police Department has struggled to stash the weed its narcotics officers confiscate.

Now, the department is asking Denver City Council to approve $125,116 in the 2017 budget so its property bureau can handle the thousands of pounds of marijuana that comes through its doors each year.

“We’re no longer getting small amounts like we used to,” said Lt. Cliff Carney, who manages the department’s evidence section. “Instead of 15 to 20 plants grown in someone’s basement, they’re finding 1,000 to 1,500 plants in a warehouse and all the equipment that goes with it.”

Denver marijuana farms make unwelcome neighbours

EDITOR'S NOTE: With Canada poised to legalize marijuana in 2017, CBC News reporter Solomon Israel went to Denver to see how the fledgling pot industry there has affected where people live, their health concerns and how it shapes public spending. This is the first of three pieces in our series.

Even though pot isn't yet legal in Canada, marijuana dispensaries are already taking root in Toronto neighbourhoods like Kensington Market and the Danforth.

And while that's sparked complaints to police and local councillors, it could be worse: Torontonians could be living near an urban marijuana farm.
