Give Florida Doctors Flexibility to Recommend Marijuana

"If your dog got sick, and marijuana could help him, you'd have it in his food bowl tonight — not tomorrow — tonight."

That statement — or a slight variation thereof — was made dozens of times by John Morgan while he campaigned for medical marijuana over the last four years.

John is rarely wrong when opining on matters of human nature.

I can now personally affirm that John's statement is true.

Recently my veterinarian recommended trying marijuana as a potential treatment for my dog's chronic, undiagnosed and so far untreatable gastrointestinal issues.

CannaBiz Day Orlando: Marijuana Business Event Hits Central Florida Ahead of New Regulations

Just weeks before new state medical marijuana regulations are set to be enacted, all of the nascent industry's key players will gather at Florida Cannabis Coalition’s CannaBiz Day Conference at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, FL, March 25, 2017. Florida voters mandated medical marijuana with 72% support on the ballot in November and the state began issuing patient ID cards this week, confirming that this industry is here to stay.

The largest marijuana business organization in the state, Florida Cannabis Coalition was founded in 2014 to inform and connect anyone interested in Florida’s marijuana industry – and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. This is reflected by the organizations 600+ members and 400+ attendees expected next month.

City of Miami Officials Still Aren't Sure Medical Marijuana Is Legal

In November, Floridians overwhelmingly voted to legalize medical marijuana. Seventy-one percent of voters backed Amendment 2, requiring the legislature to make rules by July 3. By September, medical pot is supposed to be available statewide.

But try telling that to the City of Miami. Nearly four months after the election, officials in the Magic City are still debating whether medical marijuana is even legal at all.

Break up Florida's medical marijuana monopoly

Floridians overwhelmingly made access to medical marijuana a constitutional right. Now, the state's so-called Office of Compassionate Use, and some lawmakers, want to make it onerous to obtain cannabis. It's disappointing, but not surprising, given Tallahassee's resistance to medical marijuana.

Two competing bills are circulating in the Florida Senate. We favor the proposal by Republican Sen. Jeff Brandes of St. Petersburg, largely because it would break the monopoly the state gave seven companies after a non-euphoric strain of cannabis was legalized in 2014.

Claims to Make a Fortune off Medical Marijuana Stocks in Florida

The world wide web has turned into an advertising platform as companies are able to buy space to market their product or products.

It's going a step further though, as sponsored ads seem to be using Florida's passage of medical marijuana as a way to make money.

This advertisement popped up on the Yahoo website in hopes of getting you to look into 'the Green Gold Rush.'

The three sentences point out, "If you've never invested, now's the time to start....This is the last legal way for the little guy to grow rich...Learn how - See the details here."

Florida governments fret over marijuana 'green rush'

The parade of horribles seems endless for local government officials grappling with an anticipated "green rush" in Florida after voters in November overwhelmingly approved a measure legalizing medical marijuana for hundreds of thousands of patients with debilitating conditions

Meanwhile, the local moratoriums -- temporary bans on permitting and zoning for dispensaries -- are intended as status quo placeholders while officials wait for lawmakers, or the Department of Health, to impose new rules.

Florida Begins Rulemaking Workshops on Medical Cannabis

With only five months left to implement regulations regarding Amendment 2, the Florida Department of Health has begun rule development workshops this week in Duval County.

The not-so-subtle undertone of the workshops, thus far, has been to avoid modeling impending legal definitions after preexisting ones.

The first of five workshops were held on Monday afternoon at the Duval County Health Department in Jacksonville. Every seat in the room was filled with men and women of all ages and nationalities, by the time the session began.

Some Doctors Think Medical Marijuana Could Be an Effective Autism Treatment

Some doctors believe medical marijuana could be an effective treatment for children with Autism.

The drug treatment is non-euphoric, or would contain low THC levels,  so kids wouldn’t get high.

Under Florida Amendment 2, doctors should be able to order it for patients,  but there’s a possible hurdle in the way.

There’s a push to have each case go before the Florida Board of Medicine first.

“The board of medicine is not in the consultation with us, they’re not assessing patients one on one like we are.”, said pediatrician Dr. David Berger.

Berger explains that patients with Autism suffer from similar symptoms as people with PTSD, who are now eligible for medical marijuana under the “Compassionate Care Act”.
