Does marijuana have nutritional benefits?

With all the recent talk of marijuana being beneficial to health, I want to know of its nutritional benefits. Also, how can I adjust my diet to move out of my weight loss plateau phase?

Marijuana refers to the dried leaves, flower, stem and seed of the hemp plant, cannabis sativa, which is indigenous to central and south Asia. Recently, there has been more interest in it in Jamaica and the world. The smokers want more of it, the scientists want it, and pharmaceutical companies want to get more medicinal value from it. Ganja, Gate Way To Employment Woes?

According to what we are hearing, it seems that the decriminalisation of marijuana will do a great deal of good to Jamaica; but the primary purpose we are being told, if it comes in effect, will be for medicinal use.

We are also being informed that, marijuana is a very vital ingredient, pertaining to health, in which people can be cured of certain ailments, which seems to be true and has already been proved.

But, more important, one of the major concerns about this herbal stuff, is that it will open widely a door for vast employment, which will be very beneficial to the economy.

Jamaica: UWI Principal Scoffs At Ganja Fears

Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Professor Archibald McDonald, has moved to quell fears that the decriminalisation of marijuana will result in an increase in the number of emergency medical cases at hospitals in Jamaica.

Speaking during a ceremony surrounding the symbolic planting of Jamaica's first legal cannabis plant at the UWI, McDonald, who is a medical doctor by training, argued that the use of alcohol and cigarettes is far worse than ganja in terms of their deleterious effects on health.

The planting of the cannabis plant coincides with the granting of licences by the Government to the UWI and the University of Technology (UTech) that will allow them to cultivate marijuana for research purposes.

Jamaica: Small farmers included in medical marijuana industry

JUSTICE MINISTER Senator Mark Golding says the Government is aiming to create an inclusive framework for the operation of the medical marijuana industry.

He said the system would be designed in a way to allow for small farmers to operate within a lawful industry.

"We don't want a design which is going to be prohibitive in terms of its requirements that would exclude especially small farmers from participating. That is where we think that there (will) be tremendous economic benefits," he said.

The justice minister was addressing the Rotary Club of Kingston's luncheon held on Thursday at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
