Can marijuana laced chewing gum treat irritable bowel syndrome?

A study suggests that a chewing gum laced in cannabis can cure irritable bowel syndrome, reducing painful stomach cramps, control bloating and normalise stool.

Researchers from Wageningen University in the Netherlands claims CBD - a key property in marijuana - could ease the colon spasms that seem to be the root cause of symptoms, reports Dailymail.

"We are excited to see that Axim Biotechnologies Inc (AXIM) has reached another milestone in its clinical development program," said Dr. Stuart Titus, CEO of Medical Marijuana, Inc.

"This is the first advancement in cannabinoid research for treatment of IBS in medical history and gives a clear example of how far ahead AXIM is in its clinical development programs," Titus added.

hen the clocks struck midnight on New Year’s Eve they not only marked the arrival of 2017 but also sounded the death knell for the oldest coffeeshop in Amsterdam, Mellow Yellow, which has closed after half a century in business.

While the rest of the Dutch capital ushered in the new year with fizz and fireworks, Mellow Yellow’s owner, Johnny Petram, fought back tears as he pulled the shutters down on his cannabis cafe for the last time.

“I tried to make the best of it but it was the worst day of my life,” he said. “Mellow Yellow was the oldest coffeeshop in Amsterdam and now it’s gone.”

Dutch Cannabis Heading to the German Medical System

Dutch newspaper Telegraaf reported earlier this month that exportation of medical cannabis from the Netherlands is looking very likely to increase due primarily to increases in demand fueled by the burgeoning market for medical marijuana in Germany. The Netherlands currently exports medical cannabis to Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Finland and Germany for medical use, scientific research, and importation and exportation of cannabis resins.

Amsterdam's oldest coffee shop has been shut down by the Dutch government leaving tourists and locals alike wondering if this spells the demise of the city's famous cannabis culture.

Why are all of Amsterdam's cannabis 'coffee shops' closing?

I’m in Mellow Yellow, Amsterdam’s oldest coffeeshop. Beneath a thin veil of smoke, groups of men and women - young, old and of various nationalities - sit at wooden tables, chatting, joking and sharing spliffs. Reggae flows from nearby speakers, while a coffee machine noisily grinds beans behind the bar.

After finding fertile ground in a decidedly grey area of Dutch drug law, Mellow Yellow opened in 1967, blazing a trail for hundreds of other coffeeshops to follow.

Next year this historic establishment should be celebrating its 50th anniversary, but instead it will be pulling down the shutters for the final time: by order of the mayor, Mellow Yellow is to cease trading on January 1, 2017. This joint is going out.
