While it’s not yet on calendars, April 20 has become the unofficial holiday of marijuana, particularly in the growing number of states where pot has been decriminalized for recreational use. “It has become hugely celebrated,” says Brett Konen, an editor with Seattle-based Leafly.com, which calls itself the world’s largest cannabis information source. It won't be as obvious as when the pizza person shows up, but customers of Columbia Care’s dispensary in Rochester can get medical marijuana delivered to their door.

For the past several weeks, the company has been testing a program to deliver the tinctures, vaporization oils or capsules to patients in western New York.

Columbia Care is one of five medical marijuana manufacturers licensed by New York, and it operates four dispensaries in various regions. The company also has dispensaries in Manhattan, Long Island and Plattsburgh. It chose to run its pilot delivery program from the dispensary at Eastman Business Park out of convenience to patients and relative ease of getting around the region.

Alegal resident living in upstate New York was arrested late last month, and is now awaiting deportation—all for a decade-old misdemeanor cannabis conviction.

Two ex-executives from Minnesota Medical Solutions are being charged for sending $500,000 worth of cannabis oil across state lines, and could be bringing the entire company down with them.

With a limited medical marijuana system already in place, Minnesota has become a dim beacon of hope in a region of the country that has typically turned their nose up at cannabis use in any way, shape, or form. With two recreational bills sitting in front of lawmakers, the state is inching ever closer to a more progressive stance on marijuana.

Minnesota lawmakers want to crack down on one of the state's medical marijuana companies whose former executives have been charged with illegally shipping $500,000 of marijuana oils to New York, pushing legislation allowing regulators to revoke the manufacturer's license and levy a huge fine.

As of Wednesday, chronic pain is a qualifying medical cannabis condition in New York.

Chronic pain sufferers will now be able to get medical marijuana prescribed to them in New York.

After announcing in December it planned to add chronic pain to its list of eligible conditions, the state Health Department on Thursday said medical marijuana for the ailment will be available starting Wednesday.

The Health Department also said physician assistants can now register to prescribe medical marijuana -- the latest group of health-care professionals allowed to prescribe the drug.

A town hall meeting was held Sunday at the Buffalo and Erie Public Library's Hamburg Branch to discuss medical marijuana, and what's currently legal under New York State's health laws. 

The organization WNY NORML, a local chapter of a national marijuana reform organization,  hosted the event. A panel of speakers were at the meeting, including medical professionals, a lawyer, and patients and caregivers experienced with New York's Medical Marijuana Program.

Attendees had a chance to get information and input on the Compassionate Care Act.  

Advocates for Medical Marijuana want it to be more accessible as a treatment option in New York. 

• Marijuana is easier to access than ever, with more than 20% of Americans living in a state that has voted to legalize recreational use — and a majority living in states that have legalized medical use.
• But when you talk to researchers who study cannabis, they say there's still a lot we don't know about marijuana.
• There are a few big studies happening right now that should for the first time offer some answers to essential questions.

In many ways, it's the age of access to pot.

As of last November, more than 20% of Americans live in states that have voted to legalize recreational marijuana use. A majority live in states that allow access to medical marijuana.
